The coast around Eden is one of the best whale watching spots in Australia. The rugged headlands and sheltered bays along the Light to Light Walk give you a front row seat for whale watching from the land.

Humpback whales often cruise close to shore in this part of NSW and Beowa National Park has plenty of oceanfront vantage points. From the lookout at Boyds Tower, watch them frolic and feed in the deep, protected waters of Twofold Bay. At the southern end, get the best views at Green Cape lookout.

September to early December is the best time to spot southern right and humpback whales on their southern migration to Antarctica. You’ll likely see seals and seabirds all year round.

Aboriginal people have a long connection with Beowa National Park, which plays an important role in the lives of local Dyirringan, Thaua and Bidwell People.

The word 'Beowa' means ‘orca’ or ‘killer whale’ in Thaua language. The name celebrates the important connection between the park’s coastline and the spiritual lives of its first inhabitants, as well as their beliefs and cultural practices associated with the ocean – in particular orcas.

The Disaster Bay to Green Cape area is particularly significant for its large number of Aboriginal sites.

The Devonian red rock is an iconic geological feature of the Beowa National Park coastline.

The red rock is caused by oxidation (rusting) of iron minerals in river sediment that was deposited around 360 million years ago. This is evidence of the global increase in atmospheric oxygen, as plants began to take hold across the planet.

This region was an evolutionary ‘Garden of Eden’. Important fossil sites in the park have produced remains of Devonian fish, like the giant lobe-fin, arthropods, and plants. They are evidence of the first complex vegetation systems and first animals on land.

The peaceful bays and coves of Beowa National Park delight with sapphire blue waters rich with marine life. Stop for a rest and a refreshing dip at Mowarry Beach and Bittangabee Bay – their sheltered headlands provide calmer waters than other beaches along the route. There are no lifeguards here. Before you enter the water, always check for rip currents, rocks and changing water depth.

You'll be walking directly along the coast with spectacular ocean views. The new clifftop section between Pulpit Rock and Green Cape brings you closer to the ocean on day 3. Take in the breathtaking views and pounding waves from Pulpit Rock – a striking cliff that juts out above red rock platforms.

This multi-day walk connects the coastline between Boyds Tower and Green Cape Lighthouse. These are places of important maritime heritage – Green Cape Lighthouse was built to provide 'light' and direction to maritime vessels navigating the east coastline or entering into Twofold Bay and Disaster Bay.

Follow the trail that was traditionally travelled by lighthouse keepers and end your walk at the southernmost lighthouse in NSW.

Keep a keen eye out for the eastern ground parrot or the southern brown bandicoot, threatened species which both call Beowa National Park home. The grass-green colouring of the eastern ground parrot helps them blend into their dense habitat. Listen for their distinctive bird call at dawn or dusk.

On your journey you may encounter other wildlife locals like kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and echidnas. Be ready to take a snap but keep your distance.
