Sandy Beach campground will be CLOSED from Friday 15th until Saturday 23rd May 2026, due to maintenance and the resurfacing of the gravel around the toilet facilities.

Closed areas: Closed areas: Notice of 1080 aerial baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Hunthawang Precinct, Lachlan Valley National Park from Friday 8 May 2026 to Sunday 17 May 2026. Hunthawang Precinct, Lachlan Valley National Park will be closed for this operation. The operation will involve the use of meat baits and meat bait products containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impact on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of foxes on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry points to baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and Reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Oolambeyan National Park will be closed for this operation. Safety alerts: Forest Drive trail (west of Middle Beach to east of Ski Beach) - closed due to fire in area

Forest Drive trail from west of Middle Beach (-34.6286°, 146.3585°) to east of Ski Beach (-34.6288°, 146.3411°) in Murrumbidgee Valley National Park (MIA 2 Precinct) is closed to the public due to a bushfire in the area.

The fire is called EUROLEY RD, MIA 2. Refer to the Rural Fire Service for latest information. Do not enter any closed area or area with fire. If you see an unattended fire call Triple Zero (000). Other planned events: Aerial 1080 Baiting Program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is doing 1080 aerial baiting of foxes and wild dogs in Nombinnie State Conservation Area, Nombinnie Nature Reserve, Round Hill Nature Reserve and Yathong Nature Reserve. This baiting program will occur between Friday 8 May and Sunday 17 May 2026 as weather permits. It will reduce the impacts of pest animals on wildlife and threatened species in the park and neighbouring stock.

There will be 1080 baiting signs at the entrance to baiting areas. Don’t touch baits if found. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS-managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Other incidents: Visitation restrictions

There are a number of restrictions on visitation and access by the general public to Yathong, Nombinnie and Round Hill Nature Reserves and Nombinnie State Conservation Area. 

  • These reserves are not available for overnight camping or hiking. Visitation is restricted to day visits only.
  • Vehicle access is restricted to the public roads passing through or adjoining the reserves. Management trails are closed to vehicles. However you are welcome to walk on the trails.
  • Bird watchers are welcome to walk into the reserves and along management trails. However take care to make sure you can navigate back to your car - it is easy to get disorientated in mallee country.
  • Trips to Round Hill Nature Reserve by bird watching clubs can be done by prior arrangement.
  • There are a number of scientific research programs happening in the reserves and visitors should not disturb any field equipment if they come across it.
  • The reserves are closed periodically to allow management programs to be undertaken. Please check the website for closures prior to visits.
