Closed parks: Mutawintji National Park closure due to expected heavy rainfall

Mutawintji National Park will be closed on Friday 23 October 2020 due to expected heavy rainfall. Homestead Creek campground and Historic Site will not be available for booking.

This park closure will be assessed on Monday 26 October 2020 and may be extended depending on conditions. The park will open when access roads reopen. For further information, contact the NPWS Broken Hill area office on 08 8084 2880.

Paroo-Darling National Park will be closed on Friday 23 October 2020 due to expected heavy rainfall. The park closure will be assessed on Monday 26 October 2020, and may be extended depending on conditions. Peery Lake picnic area and Coach and Horses campground will re-open when the road authority opens the access roads.

Fire bans: Solid fuel fire ban for Paroo-Darling National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and/or electric barbecue or cooker. Penalties apply for non-compliance. To find out more about fire bans in parks and reserves, including your responsibilities, visit NSW National Parks safety page.
