NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program on Rabbit and Dart Islands in Clarence Estuary Nature reserve from 17 August 2026 to 31st December 2026.
The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. It's designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.
Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Area closed for road maintenance
Some roads and picnic areas in these parks are closed from 0800 18 August 2026 to 1800 21 August 2026. The closed roads and areas are:
- Iluka Bluff Road, picnic area and lookout
- Back Beach Road and picnic area
NPWS will be undertaking road maintenance in these areas during this time.
Iluka Rainforest Walking Track will remain open but will be closed at the northern end where it joins Iluka Bluff Road. Entry and exit onto this track during this time will only be available at the southern entrance in the Iluka township off Crown & Long Streets.

Safety alerts: Change to road conditions
The road surface on the council section of The Gap Road into Bundjalung National Park is damaged with pot-holes. Visitors are advised to drive to road conditions, take care and drive safely. Mibanbah-Black Rocks Campground remains open.

Other planned events: Notice of noise from RAAF training operations
Bundjalung National Park visitors may experience loud aircraft noise until further notice. RAAF training operations from the nearby Evans Head Air Weapons Range may be heard and seen from the Black Rocks campground and Jerusalem Creek paddle route and walking track.
Please note:
- The RAAF schedule of planned air operations is available on the Defence Aircraft Noise webpage.
- RAAF schedules for the Air Weapons Range in Bundjalung National Park can change at short notice due to weather or other operational considerations.
- Aircraft may not utilise the range every day of scheduled operations.
