Closed parks: Capertee Valley Reserve Pest Management Operation

Capertee National Park, Gardens of Stone National Park and Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area are closed from 9am, Monday 21 November to 5pm, Friday 9 December 2022 for an aerial and ground pest control operation. Closed areas: Ben Bullen trail (Moffits trail) closed due to trail damage

The following areas are closed until trail conditions allow repair work to be undertaken:

  • Ben Bullen trail (Moffits trail) from Hutchinson Road heading east to the Gardens of Stone State Conservation Area boundary
  • Baal Bone Gap picnic area 

The trail has several large bog holes that are impassable to all vehicles. Due to these bog holes being impassable there is no through access to Wolgan Road from the Castlereagh Highway.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information about road closures. For assistance during severe weather visit the NSW SES website. In life-threatening situations call emergency services on Triple Zero (000).

The following roads in this park are closed due to storm and flood damage:

  • Martindale trail - closed until late January 2022
  • Hunter Main trail:
    • Sheepskin Hut trail to Raspberry Junction - closed until late December 2022
    • Raspberry Junction to Three Ways - closed until late December 2022
  • Mellong Range trail - closed until late November 2022
  • Commission Road - Open
  • Bulga Trail - closed until late December 2022

McMahons fire trail in Wollemi National Park will be closed for flood repairs from Monday 28 November to Saturday 3 December 2022. Please note, heavy earthmoving equipment including trucks will be in operation. There is no visitor access during this time. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed parks: Turon National Park closed due to high river levels

Turon National Park is closed until 12pm, Friday 16th December 2022 due to high river levels and flood damage to river crossings. This closure may be extended depending on weather conditions. Any extensions will be posted as soon as possible.

River crossings are impassable and dangerous to all vehicles. Campgrounds will reopen when the river has subsided to a safe level and river crossings have been repaired.

Penalties apply for non-compliance.

From Thursday 3 November 2022 to Monday 1 May 2023 NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting ongoing ground baiting program in the following areas: 

  • Abercrombie River National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park (southern sector)
  • Wollemi National Park (Wolgan Valley area) 
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Area
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Vehicle access to the following camping areas is via natural river bed crossings that require 4WD capability, and are subject to flooding:

  • Wollemi National Park - Newnes (Cricket Pitch camping area only)

  • Abercrombie River National Park - all camping areas

The Point Hatteras Trail north of the Diamond Mine dam is closed to vehicles due to wet and muddy trail conditions.

The trail will re-open to vehicles when the area dries out significantly and trail has been assessed for any damage or repair work.

Access to this area is available by walking along the trail.

There is no vehicle access to the Genowlan Mountain/ Airly Turret(Mt Airly) section of Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area due to trail conditions from the extended periods of wet weather.

Tramway trail in Mugii Murum-ban State Conservation Area is closed until further notice. The closure is due to a rockfall adjacent to the trail.
