Kosciuszko Road will be closed in both directions between Barry Way and Perisher Valley between 10am to 5:30pm on Saturday 23 March 2024 due to the Snowy Classic.

Anyone entering Kosciuszko National Park before 10am on event day will not be able to descend to Jindabyne until the roads open at 5:30pm.

  • Guthega to Charlotte Pass (includes Illawong Walk): 9:00am to 4:30pm
  • Charlotte Pass to Perisher (includes Porcupine Walk): 7:30am to 12:00pm

Track works on Porcupine track and Charlotte Pass village to Perisher walk

There will be track works on Porcupine track and Charlotte Pass village to Perisher walk between 19th February and 23rd February. Short delays may be experienced to allow operations to occur. Please follow all directions from workers.

Weed spraying (broad leaf chemical application) will take place in the following areas of Kosciuszko National Park from Monday 22 January 2024 to Thursday 22 February 2024:

  • Guthega to Charlottes Pass walking track
  • The northern side of Illawong Bridge, within a 100m radius of the bridge
  • The Main Range walk, predominately between Charlotte Pass and Blue Lake, and Lake Albina.

There are no changes to track access. Please take care in these areas.

Closed areas: Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk closure

Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk, from Charlotte Pass turning circle to Rawson Pass, is closed to all traffic, staff and visitors from:

  • Tuesday 13 February to Thursday 15 February 2024
  • Tuesday 20 February to Thursday 22 February 2024

Major trail repair works will be underway to address damage caused by recent rainfall events. There will be alternate access to the summit via Kosciuszko walk (from Thredbo) and Main Range walking track via Blue Lake.

Do not enter closed areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 ongoing program

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program will be continuous and ongoing between Friday 9 February 2024 and Friday 9 August 2024. These programs are part of an integrated pest animal control strategy, aimed at minimising the impacts of these animals on neighbouring stock.

Baiting programs will be conducted in Thredbo/Ingebyra, Dalgety/Paupong and Corrowong/Tombong/Merriangaah Wild Dog Plan Areas. Baiting programs will also be undertaken in Paupong, Merriangaah and Quidong Nature Reserves.

This includes the following sections of Kosciuszko National Park:

  • Thredbo Valley
  • Moonbah
  • Ingebyra
  • Paupong
  • Numbla Vale
  • Corrowong

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS Estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: No parking at Porcupine track/Snowies Alpine walk track head

Sections of Porcupine Road are closed for construction works until June 2024 with access for locals and pedestrians only. There is no parking at the track head of Porcupine track and the Snowies Alpine walk for the duration of this closure. Walkers will need to park in Perisher Valley carpark and walk to the track head from there.

Essential Energy are completing a network upgrade to the power supply at Charlotte Pass Snow Resort from December 2023 to April 2024. The works will affect:

  • Traffic conditions on Kosciuszko Road and Charlottes Way between Spencers Creek and Charlotte Pass Village. Please expect short delays on these roads.
  • Access to the Charlotte Pass to Porcupine Rocks walking track. Please expect diversions and follow signage on the track.

Helicopter operations for the Snowies Alpine Walk Stage 4 construction will be occurring from Ski Tube Carpark D on various dates throughout summer. Operations will affect access to:

  • Bundilla accessible track
  • Thredbo Valley track
  • Muzzlewood track
  • Bullocks track at Bullocks Flat.

During helicopter operations, Ski Tube Carpark D will be temporarily closed, and access to the above tracks will be as signed through Carpark C. You may experience short delays on the Bundilla accessible track during operations.

Sections of Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk are affected by upgrades from Friday 10 November 2023 to mid-April 2024. Expect delays and diversions, and follow signage on tracks.

Repairs will take place on the Charlotte Pass to Rawson Pass section of the walk from November 2023 until further notice. Other sections of the Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk may close for up to a week in February 2024. There will be alternate access to the summit via Kosciuszko walk (from Thredbo) or the Main Range walk (from Charlotte Pass). This alert will be updated with closure dates as they become available.

  • The Thredbo-Perisher area is open all year, but some roads and trails may close due to weather conditions or park management issues. Kosciuszko Road is closed between Perisher and Charlotte Pass in winter (June to October long weekends).
  • Park entry fees apply on Alpine Way and Kosciuszko Road

    Winter (June to October long weekends): $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs from purchase); motorcycles $12; bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day. Find out more about the winter entry surcharge.
