About 30 minutes south of Wollongong, Killalea bunkhouse makes a great base for school kids and adventurers who want to meet up, relax and enjoy the outdoors together. The bunkhouse-style accommodation has shared facilities and is 15 minutes’ walk from the beach in Killalea Regional Park.
You’ll find lots to see and do during your stay. Stroll over to Minnamurra River to try your luck with fishing. Or catch waves at world-class surf spots, The Farm and Mystics Beach, also known as Minnamurra Beach. After a full day of exploring, cook up a meal in the shared camp kitchen.
There are plenty of opportunities for kids to learn about native plants and animals. Head to the nearby freshwater lagoon and beaches to spot birds including crakes, swans and endangered pied oystercatchers. At night, possums, boobook owls and 10 different bat species emerge to hunt and feed.
Reconnect with nature at Killalea campground in Killalea Regional Park, just 30 minutes from Wollongong. This peaceful shady campground is a short walk to world-class surf beaches and Minnamurra River.
