A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Roads in Timmallallie National Park are rough in some sections because of erosion caused by heavy rainfall. Road conditions may change quickly following rainfall. Never drive through floodwater.

Closed areas: Partial park closure for aerial pest control operation

An aerial pest control operation is scheduled to take place in Warrumbungle National Park over a three day period (determined by weather conditions) from Wednesday 29 March 2023 to Sunday 2 April 2023.

During operations, some areas of the park will be closed and clearly signposted with closure notices. The closures will impact access to all walking tracks and visitor areas (except for those listed below), typically for a 24hr period.

The following areas will remain open for the duration of the operation:

  • Camp Blackman
  • Camp Walaay
  • Warrumbungle National Park Visitor Information Centre
  • Whitegum lookout
  • Canyon picnic area
  • Wambelong nature track
  • Gurianawa track

This pest control program will target goats and aims to reduce the significant impact they have on heritage sites, native plants and animals, including threatened species. Other pest animals, including pigs, cats, foxes and wild dogs will be targeted if observed during the operation.

Some roads in Pilliga West State Conservation Area and Pilliga West National Park are closed due to subsidence damage. Take care when driving in the area. Please obey all closure notices.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) carries out continuous 1080 baiting in Warrumbungle National Park for the control of foxes. Meat baits and canid pest ejectors (CPE's) containing 1080 sodium fluoroacetate poison are laid in the Park north of Timor Road/John Renshaw Parkway.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

This program protects the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. For more information, contact the NPWS Castlereagh area office on 02 6843 4000.
