NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs. The program will be conducted between Wednesday 2 September and Friday 2 October 2020 in Ginghet Nature Reserve.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog and fox baiting program

Ground baits containing ACTA 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) will be laid along various tracks and trails within Gundabooka National Park and Gundabooka State Conservation Area from Thursday 10 September to Friday 9 October 2020 to control wild dog and fox populations.

1080 is poisonous to humans if swallowed and harmful if absorbed by the skin or inhaled. If poisoning occurs, contact the Poisons Information Centre on 13 11 26. For further information please contact the NPWS Bourke area office on 02 6830 0200.

Closed parks: Park closed for hazard reduction burning

The following parks will be closed for hazard reduction burning from Wednesday 9 September to Saturday 12 September 2020:

  • Merriwindi State Conservation Area
  • Pilliga West State Conservation Area
  • Pilliga West National Park

Penalties apply for non-compliance. Western Way, Brumby Road, Wangan Road and Wombo Lane will remain open. Take care as you may experience smoke in the area.

The three hazard reduction burns are called Ginty's HR, Telephone Line HR and Kurrajong HR. For more information, contact the local NPWS office or visit the Rural Fire Service website.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) carries out continuous 1080 baiting in Warrumbungle National Park for the control of foxes. Meat baits and canid pest ejectors (CPE's) containing 1080 sodium fluoroacetate poison are laid in the park north of Timor Road/John Renshaw Parkway.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

This program protects the endangered brush-tailed rock-wallaby. For more information, contact the NPWS Castlereagh area office on 02 6843 4000.

Closed areas: Roads closed in Pilliga Forest

Some roads in Pilliga West State Conservation Area and Pilliga West National Park are closed due to subsidence damage. Take care when driving in the area. Please obey all closure notices.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

Australian Wildlife Conservancy carries out continuous 1080 fox baiting in Pilliga State Conservation Area and the Gilgai section of Pilliga National Park. This applies from Monday 23 September 2019 to Wednesday 23 September 2020.

Fox baits and Canid Pest Ejectors containing 1080 poison (sodium fluoroacetate) are laid across the entire state conservation area north of Railway Survey Road and west of Pickaxe Road.

Domestic pets, including dogs, are not permitted in national parks or reserves. All neighbours and visitors to the park must be aware that 1080 baits are lethal to domestic dogs and cats. We recommend that dogs in the area where baiting is underway be restrained or muzzled at all times. In the event of accidental poisoning, seek immediate veterinary assistance.
