NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a baiting program using fresh meat, manufactured baits and CPEs containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program will be ongoing and continuous from Monday 16 May to Friday 17 October 2022.

The baited parks and reserves include:

  • South East Forests National Park
  • Coolumbooka Nature Reserve
  • Bondi Gulf Nature Reserve
  • Wadbilliga National Park

There will be signs at the entry to all baiting locations.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing aerial baiting program from from Monday 16 May 2022 to Friday 27 May 2022 in the following parks and reserves:

  • Badja Swamps Nature Reserve
  • Budawang National Park
  • Bungonia State Conservation Area
  • Coolumbooka Nature Reserve
  • Deua National Park
  • Egans Peak Nature Reserve
  • Monga National Park
  • Morton National Park
  • Nadgigomar Nature Reserve
  • South East Forest National Park
  • Tarlo River National Park and
  • Wadbilliga National Park

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. The NSW National Parks section of Packers Swamp Road is closed to the public due to recent rain events that have caused hazardous road conditions.

Access to Nunnock Swamp and Alexanders Hut is via Creewah Road.

From Wednesday 4 May until Friday 6 May 2022, herbicide is being applied to control Crofton weed in the Brown Mountain section of South East Forests National Park.

Qualified contractors will be conducting this program to control invasive weeds in this area.

Safety alerts: Wog Way temporary closure

Wog Way is closed from Kanoonah Road in the north through to the park boundary in the south. Above average rainfall in March and April has caused deterioration of the road surface with a section becoming very boggy and unsuitable for vehicles. Coolangubra Forest Way provides alternative access for park visitors travelling to Waratah Campground or Pheasants Peak from Imlay Road.

Safety alerts: Newline Road temporary closure

Newline Road is closed from Tantawangalo Mountain Road to Dragon Swamp Road to through traffic.

Some sections of the road are boggy and unsuitable for vehicles due to rainfall.

Creewah Road, east of Cathcart township, provides alternative access for park visitors travelling to Nunnock Swamp or Alexanders Hut.

Kanoonah Road in Coolangubra section of South East Forests National Park is closed from Myanba Falls Road through to the northern park boundary due to a major landslip following recent heavy rainfall.
