Other planned events: 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) pest control baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a ground baiting program between Sunday 1 September 2024 and Saturday 1 March 2025 in Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area. The program involves the use of Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) that contain 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

For further information please call the NPWS Central West area office at Bathurst on 02 6332 7640.

Other planned events: Alert Notice of use of Hoggone meSN Feral Pig Bait from September 2nd

Due to a large number of feral pigs causing impacts in the Reserve, and to meet NPWS's General Biosecurity Duty, (GBD), under the Biosecurity Act, NPWS will be using "Hoggone" bait material to control feral pigs.

NPWS pesticides trained staff, will be using a new control product, to control feral pig numbers, and lessen the impacts caused by feral pigs in Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area.

HOGGONE will be used on this Reserve, and the product is a peanut based product with Sodium nitrite as the poison.

This product is very effective on controlling feral pigs and when used carefully has few off-target impacts.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected. Pets and working dogs must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NPWS staff will be monitoring the success of the program and have allowed a few weeks to undertake the program.

For more information on this project to control feral pigs, please contact the NPWS Central West Area office at Bathurst on 02 6332 7640 or email npws.centralwest@environment.nsw.gov.au
