Closed areas: Aerial pest control operation - South East Forest and Western Wadbilliga National Parks

Sections of South East Forest and Wadbilliga National Parks will be closed from Sunday 28 February to Wednesday 10 March 2021 due to an aerial vertebrate control program.

The closed areas in South East Forest National Park include:

  • Tantawnagalo 

The closed areas in Western Wadbilliga National Park include:

  • Nunnock Swamp 
  • Packers Swamp 
  • Dragon Swamp 
  • Bega Swamp

The surrounding roads, trails, campgrounds, walking tracks and infrastructure are also closed. Closed signage is in place and penalties apply for non-compliance.

All of south Ben Boyd National Park is closed for aerial pest control operations from 5pm Sunday 28 February to 5pm Wednesday 3 March 2021.

The Waalimma and Genoa section of South East Forests National Park will be closed from 11pm Sunday 28 February until 11pm Wednesday 3 March 2021 for an aerial pest control operation. The closure includes Waalimma campground.

Park through roads will remain open, including Nungatta Creek Road and Poole Road.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a baiting program using fresh meat, manufactured baits and CPEs containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes and wild dogs. The program will be ongoing and continuous from Monday 4 January to Friday 4 June 2021.

The baited parks, reserves and state conservation areas include:

  • Ben Boyd National Park
  • Bournda National Park
  • Bournda Nature Reserve

There will be signs at all baiting locations.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs in the vicinity must be restrained or muzzled and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Waratah Road North in South East Forests National Park is closed due to planned bridge works. You can still access Pheasants Peak track head via Waratah Road South off Coolangubra Forest Way.
