Read more about Mobility chairs

The TrailRider and Hippocampe accessibility chairs offer new opportunities for people with mobility restrictions to experience our parks for themselves, and with their family and their friends.

The TrailRider has handles at the front and back, which allow guides to manoeuvre the chair on walking tracks that are not wheelchair-accessible, including up and down stairs. The use of a TrailRider requires a minimum of two guides. Read about one family’s experience of the TrailRider at Have Wheelchair Will Travel and watch the Parks Victoria video.

The Hippocampe mobility chair is a lightweight, three-wheeled mobility chair that can be self-propelled, pushed or pulled along depending upon the terrain. It’s suitable for a variety of walking tracks and trails, and even the beach.

TrailRiders and Hippocampes in NSW national parks are free to hire, however bookings are recommended and you’ll need to bring your own guides. To make an enquiry or booking, contact Royal National Park Visitor Centre or Snowy Region Visitor Centre. For more information about the TrailRider or Hippocampe, email NPWS.
