Overview

Ferry Crossing picnic area is in Bundjalung National Park, not far from Back Beach picnic area. It's a great spot to go fishing when you stay at Woody Head campground.

Just 3km from Iluka at the end of Marandowie Road, Ferry Crossing picnic area has all the ingredients for a peaceful day of fishing. Cast your line into the North Arm of the Clarence River to fish for bream or mullet along the protected rock wall. Or launch your boat at the adjacent council boatramp to try your luck further from shore.

With the river on one side and rainforest on the other, chances are you'll see some wildlife. Keep an eye out for white-bellied sea eagles overhead as they patrol the waterways for fish. It's also a good place to spot osprey chicks during nesting season.

In former times, this place was where a ferry crossed the river to Iluka. Today you can still see non-native plants growing around the site where the ferry master's house once stood.
