Closed areas: Picnic areas and walking track closed

Towac and The Walls picnic areas are closed from 8am Friday 11 June for facilities upgrades. On completion of current works Towac and The Walls picnic areas will be opened, however the lookout platform at The Walls picnic area will remain closed for further upgrades.

Access to The Walls Picnic Area from the Nature Track is not permitted. The Nature track can be accessed from the Summits Track.  These closures are reassessed weekly.

The western corner of Bill Lyle Reserve is closed due to fallen tree limbs. Do not enter the sectioned-off area. Supervise children closely.

The Hospital picnic area in Hill End Historic Site is closed due to a weather event causing limbs to fall from trees in the area.

You can still access Bill Lyle Reserve picnic area.

Fire bans: Solid fuel fire ban for Sturt National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program will be continuous and ongoing between Monday 1 March 2021 and Tuesday 31 August 2021 in Winburndale Nature Reserve and Girralang Nature Reserve.

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a ground baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE) that contain 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes. The program will be ongoing between Friday 29 January 2021 and Tuesday 31 August 2021 along management trails in Mount Canobolas State Conservation Area.

Readily identifiable 1080 poison signs have been positioned at trail entry points or trail junctions as well as other appropriate locations throughout the reserve.
