Bushfires in NSW is a Stage 3 teacher resource aligned to learning outcomes and course content in the NSW Geography, Science and Technology and English syllabuses.

The NSW cross-curriculum priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures and Sustainability are also addressed.   

Through the content, videos, fact sheets and activities in this 7-module Bushfires unit, students learn about:

  • what bushfires are, and when and where they occur (including factors affecting frequency and intensity)
  • the impacts of bushfires on people and the natural environment
  • who manages bushfires and how they do this
  • bushfire recovery and ways to reduce the impacts of bushfires in the future
  • the 2019-2020 NSW bushfire season as a case study.
