Closed areas: Changes to Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park precinct closures

Many high visitation areas and facilities within Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park are open to visitors. Some visitor areas and facilities remain closed due to maintenance and upgrades. These closed areas are: 

  • The Bobbin Head Playground
  • The Basin trail
  • The Basic campground and picnic area
  • Mackerel service trail
  • Salvation Loop and Wallaroo trails 

Berowra track, between Apple Tree Bay and the intersection of Mount Ku-ring-gai track, has now reopened. However if you plan to visit, walk with caution as some sections of the track remain uneven. 

Please remember to practice appropriate social distancing requirements and good hygiene. The maximum group size for an outdoor gathering is 10 people. Groups are still expected to maintain social distancing. If you arrive at a national park or other public space and it is too crowded to practice social distancing, it is your responsibility to leave the area. Do not wait to be instructed by NPWS staff or police.

The closure of toilets and other facilities will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Necessary site assessments will take place to consider the management of health and safety risk to visitors and staff, and available resourcing to maintain facilities. Access to sanitation products and running water cannot be guaranteed. We recommend bringing hand soap, hand wipes and toilet paper with you to maintain good hygiene as advised by the NSW Government.

If you're visiting the park, please bring a card to pay vehicle entry fees.

Closed areas: Changes to Lane Cove National Park precinct closures

All high visitation areas and facilities in Lane Cove National Park will be open from Friday 29 May 2020.

Riverside walk will remain closed between Cottonwood Glen (Area 13) and Carter Creek (Area 9) picnic areas until further notice while staff work to fix extensive flood damage, erosion and unsafe conditions.

Lane Cove Holiday Park is unable to accommodate any camping, including caravans, motor-homes or cabin accommodation. They are currently taking bookings for arrivals after Wednesday 1 July 2020. If you have enquiries or wish to make a future booking, call Lane Cove Holiday Park on 02 9888 9133.

Visitors are reminded to practice appropriate social distancing requirements and good hygiene. The maximum group size for an outdoor gathering is 10 people. Canoelands Ridge trail within Marramarra National Park may be temporarily restricted from Thursday 21 May 2020 until further notice due to track remediation work. The walking track between the end of Canoelands Ridge trail and Gentlemans Halt campground remains closed until further notice while staff assess safety concerns. 

Twin Beaches campground and toilet block remain closed until further notice while upgrade works are conducted.

Tunks Ridge campground remains closed until further notice while staff assess safety concerns.

Closed areas: Malabar Headland Anzac Rifle Range

1. For public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice.

2. When is the eastern section of the park closed?

  • Every Saturday from 7.30am

3. Do not enter the eastern section of the park (including Boora Point walking track) when:

  • Red flags are flying above the range
  • There are warning signs at the park's entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark)
  • Park entry gates are closed

These closures apply to the eastern section of the park only (Boora Point walking track).

The western section of the park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open.

The range operation schedule is provided by the NSW Rifle Association.

The exhibition and museum space in Kurnell Visitor Centre remains closed until further notice. NPWS is monitoring visitation to this park with the potential to close it entirely when peak capacity is reached. This is to protect the health and safety of our visitors and staff.

Safety alerts: Swimming safety in Berowra Valley National Park

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

Safety alerts: Lower steps on Shark Island Wharf closed

The lower 4 steps of Shark Island Wharf are closed due to a safety hazard. Using these steps for berthing, drop-off and pick-up is prohibited. Access is only possible using the upper stairs.

Small vessels and boats may not be able to berth, particularly at low tide.

Casuarina track between Carrol Creek and Davidson Picnic area, Forestville is closed indefinitely due to the removal of the stairway down to the picnic area after safety concerns. Lyrebird track is the recommended alternative access which connects to the Governor Philip Walk or Ferguson Street. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: Flat Rock track - partial closure

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

Closed areas: Lane Cove National Park toilet closures

From Monday 7 December 2015, some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends and public holidays. Toilets affected are:

  • Blue Wren and Illoura (Areas 4-5)
  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Bakers Flat (Area 28)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)

  • Sydney Harbour National Park is open sunrise to sunset but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    Bradleys Head carpark: $8 per vehicle per day. North Head carpark: $5 per vehicle per day. There are pay and display machines that accept cards and coins - no change given. Chowder Bay Road parking: Monday-Friday: $3 per hour, to a maximum of $16 per day. Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays: $4 per hour, to a maximum of $20 per day. If you hold an NPWS All Parks or Multi Parks Pass, you can park free for up to four hours per day - additional time can be purchased. Car parks operated by Sydney Harbour Federation Trust or Mosman Council are not covered by your pass. Please check signs carefully.

    Other fees:

    Landing fee or tour fee applies to visit Sydney Harbour islands. To visit Shark, Clark or Rodd islands all vessels, including kayaks, need to pay a $7 per person landing fee. To arrange, please contact 1300 072 757 (13000 PARKS). Annual NSW Parks Passes not valid for landing fees.
