Closed parks: Park closure alert for Mooball National Park

Park closed for road repairs

 

Mooball National Park is closed from 7.30am, Monday 22 June 2026 to 4.30pm, Friday 31 July 2026 for all of park road repairs.

 

During the period of closure multiple heavy truck movements are scheduled on Cooradilla Road per day. For your safety, please adhere to the park closure.

Essential roadworks will be happening in Mount Jerusalem National Park from Monday 6 July to Friday 24 July 2026. The affected roads and trails are:

  • Hughes Trail
  • Middle Ridge Road
  • Main Arm Road
  • Manns Road

Roadworks will happen on weekdays between 7am and 5pm. Expect short delays during these times. Drive safely and follow the directions of roadwork signs and traffic control staff.

Closed areas: Nightcap Range Road closed in both directions due to major landslip repairs

Nightcap Range Road is closed to traffic in both directions due to a major landslip associated with the 2022 flood event. The closure affects the section of Nightcap Range Road between Rummery Road intersection and Telephone Road trailer parking area.

Access to Minyon Falls and Rummery Park is via Minyon Falls Road only.

Safety alerts: Damage to walking track surface

The Tallow Ridge Walking Track has been impacted by recent heavy rain events. The track surface has degraded with erosion channels and exposed tree roots. Track work will begin to reinstate several stair risers, and to remove a number of trip hazards.

Closed areas: Cape Byron walking track section closure

The elevated boardwalk section of the Cape Byron Walking Track will be closed from Monday 20 April to Friday 31 July 2026. Pedestrians will be directed to use a closed lane of Lighthouse Road. Expect short delays.

The east-bound lane of Lighthouse Road will also be closed to vehicles from Monday 20 April to Friday 31 July. Expect traffic delays on Lighthouse Road.

Safety alerts: Beach access closed due to beach erosion

Coastal processes have eroded the sand dune causing a dangerous drop off. The beach access tracks between Mildenhall Cottage and Imeson Cottage, and from Partridge Cottage, have been closed until further notice. Access to Clarkes Beach is via Brooke Drive and the Pass, or through the Bawaii (Captain Cook) car park and rest area.

Wollumbin (Mount Warning) summit track and the summit are closed until further notice. Parking at Korrumbyn Creek and Breakfast Creek is limited.

Korrumbyn Creek picnic area, Lyrebird walking track, and visitor facilities at Breakfast Creek remain open.

  • in Walgun Cape Byron State Conservation Area in the North Coast region
    • Walgun Cape Byron State Conservation Area is open all hours, but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
    • Cape Byron Lighthouse lawn is open 8am to sunset.
    • The Maritime Museum in the former Lighthouse Keeper’s office at the base of the lighthouse is open 10am to 4pm daily.
    • Opening before 8am for events or disabled access can be arranged by prior notice – contact NPWS Byron Bay office during business hours 02 6639 8300.
  • Park entry fees:

    Cape Byron Lighthouse lawn and Information Centre: $10 per vehicle per hour/$4 per hour motorcycles. Maximum 1 hour per vehicle per calendar day, including all NPWS annual passholders.

    Bawaii rest area, Cosy Corner, and The Pass: $5 per vehicle/motorcycle per hour. Tap and pay card or phone payments accepted at pay machines. Cash and credit cards accepted at Walgun Cape Byron Information Centre.

    Coach entry: $30 per coach up to 30 seats; $57 per coach 31 to 43 seats; $94 per coach 44 seats and over.
