Access roads from Broken Hill via Silver City Highway to Mutawintji National Park are open with caution to 2WD vehicles.  

Access from White Cliffs and also via Waterbag Road is also open with caution to 2WD vehicles.

Closed areas: Split Rock walking track accessible via 4WD only

Access to Split Rock walking track is only via 4WD along Old Coach Road. The creek crossing is very steep and not accessible by 2WD.

The Wilcannia to Tilpa road (east side) is closed due to flooding. There is no access to Coach and Horses campground until this road reopens.

Other planned events: Aerial 1080 pest management program

An aerial baiting program using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes will be undertaken from Monday 3 May to Friday 16 May 2021. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Lake Drive at Morton Boulka picnic area and Emu Lake Drive closed

These two small sections of road in Kinchega National Park are closed:

  • Lake Drive from Morton Bouka picnic area to Cawndilla campground
  • Emu Lake Drive

Cawndilla campground is not accessible. Emu Lake Drive is currently closed but Emu Lake campground is accessible when the park is open.

The Kinchega Shearers Quarters accommodation will be closed during May and June 2021 while upgrades are completed. This will involve the upgrading of existing shower, toilet and laundry facilities as well as the provision of a new family and disabled access bathroom.

Cawndilla campground is closed. Lake drive is closed from Morton Boulka picnic area and there is no access to Cawndilla campground.

Fire bans: Solid fuel fire ban for Paroo-Darling National Park

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and/or electric barbecue or cooker. Penalties apply for non-compliance. To find out more about fire bans in parks and reserves, including your responsibilities, visit NSW National Parks safety page.
