NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground baiting program from Saturday 1 July 2023 to Sunday 30 June 2024. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes.
The program will take place in:

  • Beowa National Park
  • Bournda National Park
  • Bournda Nature Reserve 
  • Eurobodalla National Park
  • Mimosa Rocks National Park
  • South East Forest National Park (Yowaka Section and North of Snowy Mountain Hwy)
  • Wadbilliga National Park

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species. 

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. 

Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: Gulaga walking track closed from Saddle to Summit

The Gulaga walking track from the Saddle to the Summit is currently closed due to multiple trees falling across the track during the recent weather event impacting the South Coast.  NPWS staff are assessing the damage and working to restore access, however until the trees are removed it is unsafe to enter these areas. 

 

Please check the NPWS website for updates before travelling to Gulaga National Park. Do not attempt to enter these areas, and follow the directive of signage in place and NPWS staff in the area.   Penalties apply for non-compliance

Closed areas: Light to Light walk closure

The Light to Light walk is currently closed between Boyds Tower to Saltwater Creek from late July 2023 until December 2023 to allow for track upgrades. These closures will impact plans to complete the return-walk. This closure will not affect Saltwater Creek or Bittangabee campgrounds.

If you're booking your walk through a licensed tour operator, you can expect that these operators are being regularly informed by NPWS, so that track closure impacts can be planned for and managed.

Please monitor NPWS alerts for track closures, be prepared to modify your itinerary while track upgrades are being completed and consider transport options to divert around closed sections of the walk.

Closed areas: Bogola Head Road and Plovers Lane access closed due to road surface damage

Bogola Head Road and Plovers Lane access road will be closed to vehicles until further notice, this is due to road surface damage which may become impassable due to rain.

A severe weather warning for heavy rainfall and damaging winds has been issued for the South Coast on 28.11.2023. Heavy rainfall and strong winds are forecast, with possible flooding expected in some areas.

Closed areas: Kangarutha Track - modified access

The Kianinny access to Kangarutha walking track is modified due closed areas for the construction of a pedestrian bridge of Kianinny Creek. Works will occur from Monday the 18th September to Friday 14th December 2023.

Follow all directional signs for the temporary access track and do not enter closed areas. Visitors will continue to have access to the playground, BBQs and some picnic tables at the Kianinny Park. Some parts of this park are closed from Wednesday 25th October to Friday 29 December 2023 while road and track works take place on the following roads:

  • South Tuross Beach Road

The closure of the listed roads affects access to - part Tuross Lake (south) and South Tuross Beach. The closed areas will be sign-posted and barriers will be placed at all relevant access points and road users are advised to avoid the area until works are completed. In the event of high rainfall, the closure period maybe extended to prevent road damage from vehicles.

The Tantawangalo section of South East Forests National Park will be closed to the public from 3pm on Sunday 3 December until 3pm Friday 8 December 2023 for an aerial pest control operation.

The closed areas include:

  • Nunnock grasslands walking tracks
  • Packers Swamp
  • Dragon Swamp

This program will involve aerial shooting during daylight hours. Feral species targeted under this program include deer, goats, pigs, foxes and other pests. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species.

The closed areas will be sign-posted at relevant access points. Visitors should avoid these areas and not enter the closed areas during this time.

Safety alerts: Blackfellows Point road works

Following a landslip, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is currently working to repair Blackfellows Point Road in Eurobodalla National Park. The road remains open, but temporary barriers are in place to restrict access to the affected areas.

Please drive safely, proceed cautiously, and follow the directions of road signs.

Safety alerts: Bingi Dreaming track - Closed and open coastal lakes and lagoons

Bingi Dreaming track crosses openings to several Intermittently Closed and Open Coastal Lakes and Lagoons (ICOLLS). Openings of these lakes and lagoons are often unpredictable and can be quite dramatic. Please be aware that although lakes are usually only open for short periods (weeks), they can be impassable when open.

The Coila Lake opening is at the southern end of Bingi Dreaming track. Please check if this lake is open before you set out. If the opening is impassable, you won't be able to access the village of Tuross to complete the walk.
