Overview
Take the easy walk along sandy dunes to Nelson Beach in Mimosa Rocks National Park. Enjoy a spot of surfing or fishing, before setting up for a picnic on the beach.

It’s a short and easy walk along the dunes to Nelson Beach. Linger on the white sands to gaze over the glistening aqua-blue waters or take a picnic and find a spot to relax.
Be sure to bring your camera along to capture the stunning views. If you’re quick, you could snap local wildlife such as koalas, swamp wallabies and migratory birds like hooded plovers or pied oystercatchers.
For surfers, Nelson Beach offers breaks over the beach and the inlet shoals. It's nicely protected from north and south winds.
Return to the carpark on the walking track, or stroll up the beach to Nelson Lagoon and return via another short trail.

Getting there and parking
Get driving directions
Nelson Beach is in the southern part Mimosa Rocks National Park. To get there:
- From Tathra, follow Tathra-Bermagui Road.
- Turn right onto Nelson Lake Road and follow the signs to Nelson Beach
- Nelson Beach is a short walk from the carpark

Spring
Head to one of the park's headlands for great whale watching – don't forget your binoculars for up close views.
Summer
A great time for a family camping holiday by the beach, try Aragunnu campground or Gillards campground .
Winter
Keep your eyes on the parks winter-flowering plants, like spotted gums, mugga ironbark and coastal banksia for honeaters and lorikeets.
