National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will commence a 1080 ground and aerial baiting program on the 1st April to 30th June 2024 on the following reserves:

  • Bald Rock National Park
  • Barool National Park
  • Basket Swamp National Park
  • Bluff River Nature Reserve
  • Bolivia Hill Nature Reserve
  • Butterleaf National Park
  • Capoompeta National Park
  • Cataract National Park
  • Cataract State Conservation Area
  • Cathedral Rock National Park
  • Crooked Creek National Park
  • Donnybrook Nature Reserve
  • Gibraltar Nature Reserve
  • Gibraltar Range National Park
  • Guy Fawkes River National Park
  • Guy Fawkes River Nature Reserve
  • Kings Plains National Park
  • Kwiambal CCAZ1 (Arthurs Seat)
  • Kwiambal National Park
  • Mann River Nature Reserve
  • Maryland National Park
  • Nullamanna National Park

The operations will use meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. Signs will be placed at the entry to all the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NPWS managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Yabbra National Park is closed until further notice. The closure is due to damage from recent weather events, planned roadworks and ongoing pest control programs.  Joes Box Road, Yabbra Plains Road, South Haystack Feeder Road  and Pocupar Road are management trails only with only authorised vehicles permitted.

Closed areas: Boonoo Boonoo Falls Picnic Area and Parts of the River Walk Closed for Construction

Boonoo Boonoo Falls Road is closed approximately 2km south of the Boonoo Boonoo Falls picnic area from 7am Monday 29 April 2024 until 5pm Friday 31 May 2024. This closure extends to the Boonoo Boonoo Falls Picnic Area, Rockpools View walk, Falls Lookout walk, Rockpool Ramble walk, Boonoo Boonoo Falls Lookout, and 2km of the River walk, north of Link Road.

Closed areas: Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road closed

From 1 January 2024, Toonumbar Forest Drive and Cox's Road are closed until winter 2024. Estimated re-opening dates Mid-May 2024.

Sherwood lookout and Murray Scrub lookout remain closed until the roads are re-opened. Iron Pot Creek campground and Murray Scrub walking track are only accessible via Murray Scrub Road from Afterlee.

Both roads are not safely trafficable in wet conditions and are therefore seasonally closed from late spring until late autumn dependant on rainfall during the wet season. There may also be additional closures during forecast weather events and damage during the winter period.
