Closed areas: Change in access to Wattamolla Beach and Lagoon

NPWS is upgrading the track to Wattamolla Beach and Lagoon. The works are part of a broader upgrade of the Royal Coast track from Bundeena to Garie Beach. The track upgrade will be undertaken between September 2017 and May 2018. Access to the beach and lagoon during this time will be via the Providential Point track, as indicated in this map.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program underway

A 1080 fox baiting program is being conducted at Towra Point Nature Reserve. 1080 poison can affect non target species (dogs and cats). The program will finish on Saturday 31 March 2018.

Closed areas: Boora Point walking track closures

To ensure public safety, the eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park is closed to the public during ANZAC Rifle Range operations.

These closures may occur with little or no notice. Check the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service alerts for Malabar Headland National Park before you enter.

Do not enter the park when red flags are flying above the range or if there are warning signs at the park entry points (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark). These closures also apply to Boora Point walking track.

Range scheduling information is provided by the NSW Rifle Association (the range authority).

Malabar Headland National Park is closed on the following dates:

  • The park is always closed on Saturdays and every 3rd Sunday of the month.
  • Thursday 14 September 2017
  • Friday 15 September 2017
  • Tuesday 19 September 2017
  • Wednesday 20 September 2017
  • Friday 22 September 2017

Closed areas: Garie Road closed for roadworks

Garie Road will be closed from Monday 14 August to Tuesday 31 October 2017, 7am–6pm. NSW Roads and Maritime services will be conducting essential slope stabilisation and drainage upgrade works during this time. The road will not be closed on Weekends or Public Holidays.  The closed areas are:

  • Garie Beach and picnic area
  • Little Garie Beach
  • Governor Game lookout

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

  • 7am–8.30pm November to March. 7am–7.30pm April to October

    Areas may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • You'll need to pay to visit La Perouse Museum or to tour Bare Island.
