Volunteer at Montague Island Nature Reserve to help NSW National Parks restore numbers of vulnerable and protected species of nesting seabirds that use the island as a seasonal breeding site. Would you like to be involved in conservation volunteer work at one of the most remarkably beautiful locations in the state? Montague Island Nature Reserve, home to a colony of seals, lies just off the NSW south coast near Narooma. NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service invites you to join them there.
Take part in one of the island’s conservation projects to actively help restore numbers of vulnerable and protected nesting seabirds, including:
- Little penguins
- Short-tailed shearwaters
- Wedge-tailed shearwaters
- Goulds petrels
- White-faced storm petrels
There are so many different activities you can do to lend a hand during your stay on Montague Island, including:
- Vegetation and weed control
- Seabird surveys
- Monitoring of little penguin nest boxes
Free accommodation on Montague Island is available to volunteers and you’ll also be provided with training, tools and support. Bring a sleeping bag or other bedding when you volunteer. Contact us for more information about this exciting and unique volunteering opportunity.

Montague Island Nature Reserve is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
