Closed areas: Woodford Oaks and Saint Helena trails - Weekday closure

Woodford Oaks and Saint Helena trails in Blue Mountains National Park will be closed for maintenance and repairs on weekdays from Monday 26 May 2025 to Friday 18 July 2025 inclusive. The affected areas include:

  • Woodford Oaks trail from Taylor Road at Woodford to the intersection of the Oaks/Nepean lookout trails
  • Saint Helena trail.

Please follow all signs and directions of NPWS staff. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local park office on 02 4720 6200.

Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed

Many roads, fire trails and walking tracks in Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure repairs, upgrades or damage caused by wet weather including subsidence, rockfalls, landslides and fallen trees.

The following tracks are closed:

Katoomba and Leura  

  • Giant Stairway is closed for repairs from Monday 28 April 2025 until further notice.
  • Leura Cascades track (bottom section) is closed until the end of 2025 for track upgrade works. There is no access to Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Clifftop walk) between the top of Leura Cascades and the Amphitheatre junction. Short detour via Cliff Drive.
  • Leura Cascades parking area and toilets are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Fern Bower track between Prince Henry Cliff walk and Amphitheatre track is closed due to landslides and associated repairs. 
  • Glenrapheal Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence. Walkers and cyclists permitted.
  • Sublime Point fire trail is closed for road maintenance. The planned works will take 5 weeks, commencing on Monday 26 May 2025.
  • Part of Grand Cliff Top walk will be closed intermittently east of Fairmont Resort for a helicopter operation on Thursday 26 June 2025. Please follow the directions of NPWS staff and contractors including Stop/go signage. Please expect delays. 
  • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
  • Six Foot track is affected by closures at Jenolan Caves.

Wentworth Falls and Woodford  

  • Charles Darwin walk (part of Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place to provide directions to Wentworth Falls picnic area. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to a major landslide and ongoing risks.
  • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to elevated boardwalk repairs. No access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene or Vera Falls. 
  • Valley of the Waters is closed for repairs below Nature track junction from Wednesday 21 May to Monday 30 June 2025. There is no access to Empress Falls and Sylvia Falls. 
  • Kings Tableland Road will be closed for roadworks from Tuesday 20 May to Friday 27 June 2025. As a result, there's no access to Andersons mountain bike route and McMahons lookout. It also affects one access point to Ingar campground. Vehicle access will only be permitted to residents for this period. Access to cyclists, runners and walkers will be permitted on weekends only.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, Megalong Valley and Bells Line of Road 

  • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and part of the walking track are closed. For more information visit the Blue Mountains City Council website. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
  • Govetts descent and Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. The Grose Valley can be accessed from Blackheath via Perry's Lookdown or the Horse track.

Adventure recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

  • Empress Canyon is closed from Wednesday 21 May 2025 to Monday 30 June 2025 due to track repairs. 
  • Some adventure recreation areas and routes may be closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Hawkesbury-Nattai Area will be conducting a Special Areas Catchment Pig Control Program in the following areas below.

- Nattai National Park  

- Nattai State Conservation Area, 

 including the following Trails - W4I, W4H, Valley Roads and Burragorang Valley

 

The operation consists of the following Control Methods

 

*The Use of Hoggone (Sodium Nitrite) bait

Hoggone contains peanuts. Anyone with a Peanut allergy is advised not to handle bait product.

Hoggone is lethal to pets and domestic animals, so it is recommended that you contain any livestock or animals during the program.

 

*Pig trapping through Nattai NP and SCA and Burragorang SCA during this period through the W4I, W4H, Valley Roads and Burragorang Valley.

This will involve the use of firearms to shoot pigs in traps.

 

Signage and a site assessment will be undertaken before any firearms are discharged; however, staff and contractors should be aware.

 

A contractor will also be used for pig trapping in the Southern section of our program.

Burragorang Lookout Road in Burragorang State Conservation Area will be closed to all park users for repairs and maintenance from Monday 16 June 2025 until Friday 27 June 2025 including Weekends.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in Abercrombie River National Park (NP), Abercrombie River State Conservation Area (SCA), Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve (KCR), Kanangra-Boyd NP Mares Forest NP, and Turon NP from Monday 19th May – Sunday 1st June 2025.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise the impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is undertaking closure and rehabilitation of the illegal track network in Mulgoa Nature Reserve. These works include track removal, bush regeneration including weed removal and erosion control works. Closed areas: Burragorang SCA partly closed for deer control program

Burragorang State Conservation Area will be closed between 5:00pm and 6:00am, from Monday 24 March 2025 - Monday 30 June 2025, for a feral deer management program. 

This program is part of our ongoing efforts to reduce the significant impact of deer on native plants and animals, including threatened species.

  • The control method will involve use of firearms by qualified and experienced contractors and staff.
  • Closures will not apply on weekends or public holidays during this period.
