Overview

Join a special guided tour to discover the significance of Narran Lake Nature Reserve, near Brewarrina, on an open day. You'll learn about the area through scientists as well as the traditional Aboriginal Custodians of this land.

Please note

  • Friday is the better day for school groups to visit the park.
  • Saturday may be preferable for adults to book a tour.

  • Learn about Ngarrawuwilanha yanaawayilanha (looking back going forward)
  • Learn about traditional Aboriginal tool making and weaving methods during demonstrations
  • Enjoy cultural singing and dancing performances
  • Taste delicious bush tucker and join in a barbeque lunch

Staff from the Commonwealth Environmental Water Office and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be on hand to answer any questions you have.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

All the practical information you need to know about Narran Lake open days 2025.

Getting there and parking

From Walgett:

  • Drive 7km west along Kamilaroi Highway towards Brewarrina. 
  • Where the sign points left for Brewarrina, continue straight ahead onto Gingie Road.  
  • Continue for 37km, then turn left onto Kurrajong Road. 
  • Follow for 28km to the T-section with Narran Lake Road
  • Turn right onto Narran Lake Road. Look for the gate into Narran Lake Reserve about 1km on the left past the cattle grid.

From Brewarrina:

  • Drive east along Kamilaroi Highway for 60km, before turning left onto Narran Lake Road. 
  • Follow Narran Lake Road for about 38km. Look for the gate on the left, about 1km after the Kurrajong Road intersection, just past the cattle grid.  

From Lightning Ridge:

  • Drive west from Lightning Ridge for 5km, before turning left onto Castlereagh Highway.  
  • After about 7km, turn right onto Llanillo Road towards Cumborah. 
  • At Cumborah, turn left onto Gingie Road and head south for 3km. 
  • Take the right turn onto Kurrajong Road and follow it right through to the intersection with Narran Lake Road  
  • Turn right and look for the gate into Narran Lake Reserve, about 1 km up on your left (just past the cattle grid).
