Overview

The Charcoal Tank Nature Reserve was created in May 1966. It covers an area of 86ha. View the detailed park and fire management documents.

The Charcoal Tank Nature Reserve conserves a woodland of mugga iron bark and black cypress pine growing on the lower slopes and green, blue and bull mallee on gravelly ridges. The reserve contains several species restricted to the West Wyalong area in NSW, including the dagger leaf wattle.

Endangered fauna present in the reserve include Gilbert's whistler and the shy hylacola.

There's a small picnic stop adjacent to the Newell Highway and the reserve is regularly used as a bird banding site.
