This park was created in January 2003 and covers an area of 111 hectares. It is part of a group of national parks, nature reserves and state conservation areas located along the southern section of the Richmond Range.

This state conservation area comprises two separate land parcels in the locality of Gurranang, approximately 25 km north of Grafton.
