Looking for a school holiday adventure? Join this guided tour on the banks of Sawpit Creek in Kosciuszko National Park to learn about a fascinating fish that lives in this isolated environment, and why water bugs are important to it.
The stocky galaxias is a rare and endangered native fish species, which is confined to a limited habitat. It faces threats from introduced predators, extreme weather events and habitat loss. We'll spot the special creatures, like water bugs, that keep mountain streams healthy and make a tasty meal for native fish.
Your knowledgeable NPWS guide will tell you about the important work that’s being done to save the stocky galaxias, and how these incredible little fish have endured against the odds. And you’ll take home a small magnifying glass to continue exploring the natural world.
It’s a good idea to bring a hat, drinking water, sunscreen, sturdy shoes, insect repellent and clothes for all weather conditions.
