Some roads in this park are closed from Tuesday 6 April to Wednesday 30 June 2021 due to storm and flood damage. The closed roads are:

  • Martindale trail
  • Mellong Range trail
  • Hunter Main trail - Between Three Ways Junction to Raspberry Junction only.

Closed areas: Campground Closures - Marramarra National Park

All campgrounds in Marramarra National Park will be closed from Tuesday 6 April until further notice due to dangerous conditions caused by recent flooding events across New South Wales. Extensive debris and contamination remains in the waterways and lands adjacent to the Hawkesbury River west of the Hawkesbury River Rail Bridge (Brooklyn). As per the published NSW Government Gazette Marine Notice, a maximum speed limit of 15 knots has been declared for these waters.

Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Coorongooba Campground Closed due to flood damage

Coorongooba Campground is closed due to flooding and flood damage. The causeway into Coorongooba is currently flooded. Water was at 2m above the causeway on Friday 26 March 2021.

Flooding has caused damage to the road surface and drainage structures along the road.  When conditions allow NPWS staff will inspect the damage and arrange repairs.  

Coorongooba Campground will not reopen for the April school holidays.

Closed areas: Aerial pest management program - Nullo Mountain and Bylong Valley areas

Remote areas of Wollemi National Park are closed from midnight, Monday 12 April to 11.59pm, Wednesday 14 April 2021 for an aerial pest control operation:

  • This program will be conducted in the Nullo Mountain and Bylong Valley areas of Wollemi National Park. It does not affect Dunns Swamp-Ganguddy and Coorongooba campgrounds.
  • The following fire trails are within the area of operations and are closed:
    • Nullo East trail
    • Nullo West trail
    • Myrtle trail
    • Bylong trail
  • This program will target pigs. It aims to reduce the significant impact they have on native plants and animals including threatened species
  • Other pest animals, including deer, goats, foxes and wild dogs will be targeted if observed during the operation.

Other planned events: 1080 fox baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh meat baits and/ or Canid Pest Ejectors  containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes. The program will be continuous and ongoing between Monday 8 February  and Saturday 31 July 2021 in Wollemi National Park.

The following trails will be used as a part of this program:

  • Capertee River trail, downstream of the Coorongooba campground.
  • Canobla Gap fire trail
  • Capertee River North trail

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

NPWS is working to reopen all campgrounds and accommodations where possible. However, some locations need to remain closed to ensure compliance with the current rules on public gatherings, or for other reasons such as fire or flood damage.

From 1 June 2020, all reopened campgrounds and campsites will require a booking to be made before you visit.

Other planned events: 1080 wild dog and fox control program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a strategic ground and aerial baiting program for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The operations will involve the use of meat, manufactured products and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPE’s) containing Poison 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate). The program will be continuous and ongoing from Thursday 31 December 2020 to Wednesday 30 June 2021 in the following parks, reserves and state conservation areas:

  • Abercrombie National Park and State Conservation Area
  • Gardens of Stone National Park
  • Wollemi National Park
  • Blue Mountains National Park
  • Turon National Park
  • Marrangaroo National Park
  • Mares Forest National Park
  • Kanangra-Boyd National Park
  • Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve

These programs have been designed to meet NPWS priority conservation and state focused biosecurity issues. All baiting locations will be signposted.

Safety alerts: Coorongooba campground - river access

Access to the Coorongooba campground is via a causeway through the Capertee River. This causeway is subject to flooding. The Capertee River can rise unexpectedly with heavy rains falling upstream, making the causeway impassable. Please check the weather forecast before leaving home.
