Access to Yessabah Nature Reserve is permanently closed to unauthorised personnel. The former quarry area has limestone rock faces that are unstable and prone to rock fall. Other areas of the reserve are geologically unstable.

Please be advised that the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital (managed by Koala Conservation Australia) next door to Roto House Historic Site will be closed for redevelopment until mid-2026.

The National Parks Roto House and its thriving café ‘Home at Roto House’ will continue to operate as normal, open 7days, 8:30-2pm.

Other planned events: Diamond Head campground - beach access upgrade

The paved beach access track from Diamond Head campground to the beach will be closed for upgrades from Monday 20th April for approximately four weeks. The paved path will be replaced with a raised deck, ramp and handrail to improve visitor safety and accessibility.

There will be no access to the beach using this track while the new structure is built. Visitors will need to use the old 4WD beach access track located 20m away. There will be some disturbance from construction noise during normal work hours of 8am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

Closed areas: Smoky Cape Lighthouse closed for track upgrade

Some parts of Hat Head National Park are closed from Tuesday 21 April to Wednesday 20 May 2026 while the Smoky Cape Lighthouse walking track is being upgraded. The closed areas are:

  • Smoky Cape Lighthouse
  • Captain Cook lookout
  • Walking track to the Lighthouse from the carpark

Dooragan Summit picnic area and lookout will be closed between 7:00am Monday 20th April and 5:00pm Thursday 23rd April 2026 while NPWS and Port Macquarie Hastings Council undertake hazardous tree treatment works and roadside vegetation control. The works will remove dangerous overhanging branches and deadwood from trees at the picnic area, and trim roadside vegetation along the access road, to ensure visitor safety.

Captain Cook Bicentennial Drive and the Laurieton walking track will be closed while the works are undertaken.

Penalties may apply for non-compliance.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting a ground baiting program in Queens Lake Nature Reserve & Queens Lake State Conservation Area from 23 March 2026 to 31 May 2026. The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species, and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock. Signs will be placed at the park/reserve entry to the baiting locations. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance. Please contact the local Port Macquarie NPWS area office for more information on 6588 5555.

Visitors are advised that for safety reasons firepits have been removed from Crowdy Gap campground.

Fires are not permitted on the ground. If you choose to have a fire you must bring your own portable fire pit or brazier. Braziers can be hired from Diamond Head campground if required.

Visitors must also bring in their own firewood and be aware of fire regulations and any park or total fire bans in place.

Safety alerts: Slippery and eroded walking tracks - Coastal Walk

Recent rain events have resulted in some sections of the Coastal Walk in Sea Acres National Park becoming eroded and slippery. The affected sections are between Miners Beach and the carpark adjacent to the intersection of Lighthouse Road and Matthew Flinders Drive. Walkers proceeding with the walk should exercise caution and wear appropriate footwear.

Closed areas: Rawson Falls Walking Trail closure

Part of the Rawson Falls Walking Trail remains closed due to extensive damage caused by the May 2025 major flood event. Sections of the trail are affected by dangerous trees, and a significant landslip has occurred on the track leading to the base of the waterfall.

The picnic area as well as the top section of the walking trail to the lookout platform are open.

The section of trail below the lookout will remain closed while planning approvals and procurement are completed to remediate the landslip.
