NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service will be conducting a baiting program using manufactured baits, fresh baits and Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) containing 1080 poison (sodium fluroacetate) for the control of foxes. The program is continuous and ongoing between Sunday 1 August 2021 and Monday 31 January 2022 in Lane Cove National Park.

Don’t touch baits or ejector devices. All baiting locations are identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Fox baiting in these reserves is aimed at reducing their impact on threatened species.

Gibberagong boardwalk will be closed to all visitors from Tuesday 6 April to Monday 18 October 2021, while the boardwalk is replaced. During this time there will be no access to Gibberagong track from Bobbin Head. 

Walkers along Gibberagong track who have entered from Murrua Road, North Turramurra or Grosvenor Street, North Wahroonga will be turned around at Gibberagong boardwalk and will not be able to access Bobbin Head picnic areas. Signage and security fencing will be in placed around closed areas.

These works are essential to ensure access for emergency vehicles is maintained. Please be cautious around moving machinery and wait for workers' instructions before passing.

The Whale Platform elevated walkway on Mt Ku-ring-gai walking track is closed due to serious safety concerns.

The platform will be barricaded and signage in place. No access will be permitted across the platform.

The following sections remain open:

  • Walkers from Berowra Station can walk as far as the platform closure point (6.5km one way), before returning to Berowra Station. 
  • Walkers can walk between Mt Ku-ring-gai Station and Apple Tree Bay (3.5km one way)
  • Walkers from Apple Tree Bay or Mt Ku-ring-gai Station can also walk as far as the platform closure point (1km one way from Apple Tree Bay).

From Tuesday 18 May 2021 upgrade works will be happening on Berkely fire trail in Berowra Valley National Park, until further notice. The work is focused on improving accessibility for fire-fighting vehicles. During this time vegetation management works will also be happening on the side of the trail. 

Please take care around moving machinery and tree crews, and wait for instructions from staff before passing.

Closed areas: Fort Denison closed

Fort Denison is closed from Tuesday 2 November 2020 to Sunday 30 January 2022.

The 1940s timber wharf has deteriorated and is unsafe to access. Installation of a new pontoon and wharf upgrades will take place from Monday 10 May 2021 to January 2022. Fort Denison remains closed to visitors until these works have been complete.

Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Standard work hours during the construction phase will be between:

  • 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday
  • 8am and 1pm on Saturday

Night time works will be undertaken between Sunday 16 May to Saturday 31 July during the following times:

  • Sunday to Friday night: 8pm to 5am
  • Saturday night and public holidays: No work

Noise monitoring stations will be set up in Kirribilli and Cremorne to check any over-water noise so that it does not exceed legal levels, however this is not expected to be high.

The shelters in Orchard Park at Bobbin Head will be undergoing restoration works from Monday 26 April 2021 until mid July 2021. 

Signage and security fencing will be erected around closed shelters as they are are progressively repaired. Not all shelters will be closed at once, so you can use the remaining shelters while construction works are completed.

Safety alerts: Swimming safety in Berowra Valley National Park

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

Safety alerts: Protect your picnic - native birds may steal your food

Birds at Nielsen Park are attempting to steal food from visitors' picnics and tables due to unauthorised feeding of local native birds. To try and reduce this unwanted behaviour, NPWS is asking visitors to not actively feed any wildlife and to please bring suitable methods to cover your food. These include storage containers with sealed lids or an umbrella to cover your picnic to reduce food visibility and access.

Please note, it is illegal to feed wildlife in a national park. NPWS officers are monitoring the area and fines apply if visitors are seen actively feeding birds and promoting this unwanted behaviour.

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

  • in Lane Cove National Park in the Sydney and surrounds region
  • Lane Cove National Park is open 9am to 7pm during daylight savings (until 6pm at other times). The park may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per day. The park has pay and display machines. 

    Bus: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day). Prior payment may be required, please phone the Lane Cove National Park Office for more information.

    Group bookings:

    Under the National Parks and Wildlife Regulation 2009, prior written approval is required for organised groups of 30 or more people planning to visit the park. Contact the park office prior to your visit.
