Closed areas: Access to Rummery Park campground

Access into Rummery Park campground is via Nightcap Range Road (via Durroughby) only.

Due to upgrade works at Minyon Falls precinct, Minyon Drive is closed and will remain closed until the end of June 2021.

Closed areas: Minyon Falls precinct closed

Minyon Falls precinct and Minyon Grass picnic area are closed from Monday 1 March 2021 to Wednesday 30 June 2021, while the picnic area and Minyon Falls lookout are being upgraded.

The closed areas include:

  • Minyon Falls picnic area (including Minyon Falls lookout)
  • Minyon Grass picnic area
  • Minyon loop walking track and all access points to the track
  • Boggy Creek track

Access to Rummery Park campground will be via Nightcap Range Road.

Signs will be in place around the closed areas.

With the exception of the closed tracks, the multi-use trail network will still be accessible from the Telephone Road trailer carpark via Nightcap Range Road (via Dunoon).

Closed areas: 4WD vehicle beach access via Richmond River Nature Reserve closed

4WD vehicle beach access via Richmond River Nature Reserve will be closed as of Wednesday 31 March 2021. Recreational vehicles are prohibited from entering the reserve from this date.

This follows the multi-tenure closure of South Ballina Beach to recreational vehicles by Crown Lands, Richmond Valley Council, Ballina Shire Council and NPWS, due to ongoing concerns about public safety and impacts to the environment and Aboriginal heritage values. Pedestrian access to the beach via Richmond River Nature Reserve will remain unrestricted. Secured vehicle access will be maintained for emergency services, commercial fishers, Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council and Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation.

Safety alerts: Jerusalem Creek walking track and paddle route

Jerusalem Creek received 400mm of rainfall recently. Please note:

  • The waters of Jerusalem Creek are currently dangerous for swimming and boating, especially near the creek mouth due to high velocity runoff.
  • Jerusalem Creek walking track is flooded in low lying areas and very muddy.

These areas remain open, however park visitors should be cautious. Please assess your ability and preparedness before entering the Jerusalem Creek area of Bundjalung National Park.

The Brindle Creek walking track is currently closed due to storm damage.

Closed areas: Eastern park entrance to Border Ranges National Park closed

The eastern end of the Tweed Range Scenic Drive at Barkers Vale is currently closed due to a landslip affecting part of the road near Bar Mountain. The road is closed between this entrance and the Bar Mountain picnic area. Visitors can only access the Tweed Range Scenic Drive from the western end of the park via Wiangaree. 

All other campgrounds, lookouts and picnic areas remain open. The Brindle Creek Loop Road is open. Part of the Brindle Creek walking track is currently closed.

Western sections of the boardwalk within Tweed Heads Historic Site are partially closed from Friday 19 February 2021 until repair works are complete:

  • All other visitor areas will remain open
  • The eastern section of the boardwalk will remain open
  • Signs will be in place around closed areas

Closed parks: Wollumbin National Park

Wollumbin National Park is closed due to significant safety issues on the Wollumbin Summit track. The closure will be reviewed in May 2021.

Some of the best views of Wollumbin can be found along Pinnacle walk and lookout in Border Ranges National Park. You can also try Goorgana walking track or Pholis Gap walking track in nearby Nightcap National Park, or Best of All lookout at Queensland’s Springbrook National Park.

There will be F-35A and F/A-18F Super Hornet military training operations over the Evans Head Air Weapons Range on the following dates:

  • Monday 22 February to Friday 26 February 2021
  • Monday 22 March to Friday 2 April 2021 (only 1 or 2 days)
  • Monday 17 May to Friday 21 May 2021

Visitors can expect some loud noise over Bundjalung National Park on the above dates while the aircraft are training.  Days of operations on the range can change due to weather or other operational considerations, so aircraft will not use the range every day of the scheduled operations. For more information, call the NPWS Alstonville office on 02 6627 0200.

Other planned events: Notice of 1080 baiting

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using dried meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of of the introduced European fox (Vulpes vulpes). The program will be conducted between Tuesday 16 February and Wednesday 23 June 2021 in Brunswick Heads Nature Reserve (north of the river).

All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.

Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Closed areas: South Ballina Break Wall Road closed

The South Ballina Break Wall Road entrance is closed at Mobbs Bay until Wednesday 30 June 2021 due to traffic safety risks. Public vehicle access to South Break Wall is now prohibited. Walkers and cyclists can still access the closed section of road to get to the beach and break wall. Vehicles can still drive to the Mobbs Bay area within Richmond River Nature Reserve.

Please follow the directions of all signage and do not park in front of the boom gate as the area needs to be accessible for emergency service vehicles. A review of the closure will be undertaken at 30 June 2021.
