This quiet campground offers plenty of space for families and solo travellers. Set up camp down by the Snowy River or opt for a flat site up the hill, where there was once a major community involved in the mighty Snowy Mountain Hydro scheme construction.

Bring your canoe or lilo and spend a relaxing afternoon paddling the clear waters of the Snowy River. Throw a fishing line in, or give your legs a workout on alpine mountain bike trails.

From the campground you can explore the nearby attractions of Perisher Valley. Charlotte Pass is 30 mins up the road if you’re keen to tackle the Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk. Just up Guthega Road you’ll find the impressive Guthega Power Station, gateway to the historic huts along the Whites River corridor. Or lace up for back country hiking or skiing opportunities in the Jagungal wilderness.

After a day packed with alpine adventures, retreat to the calm of Island Bend campground. Cool off in the river and refuel with a barbecue or fresh-caught fish, as the local roos, red-necked wallabies and wombats look on curiously.

Conservation program:

Southern corroboree frog conservation project

An iconic endangered species, the southern corroboree frog, found only in Kosciuszko National Park, faces the grave threat of extinction. Saving Our Species aims to prevent this from happening by battling chytrid fungus, protecting frog habitat from pests, and fostering a captive breeding program.
