Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed
Many walking tracks, roads and fire trails within Blue Mountains National Park remain closed following sustained wet weather causing subsidence hazards, major landslides or infrastructure upgrades.
The following areas are closed:
Katoomba and Leura
- Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall risk
- Federal Pass between Scenic World and Golden Stairs is closed due to a landslide.
- Golden Stairs walking track will be closed Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 April and Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 April 2024 to allow for walking track upgrades. Further closure dates to June 2024 to be advised.
- Lone Lyrebird track is closed between Gordon Road and the War Memorial, due to subsidence. Detour is in place.
- Prince Henry Cliff walk is closed between Gordon Falls picnic area and Elysian Rock lookout, due to a landslide. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Mt Solitary eastern access is effected by Kedumba Valley Road closures below.
- Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.
- The Six Foot Track will be closed from Katoomba (Explorer's Tree) to Alum Creek, from 8 April to 12 April 2024 for Local Land Services to undertake aerial pest management.
Wentworth Falls and Woodford
- Valley of the Waters track is closed below Sylvia Falls. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Vera Falls, Hippocrene Falls or Wentworth Falls from Valley of the Waters.
- Charles Darwin walk (part of the Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place to provide directions to Wentworth Falls Picnic Area. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
- Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to major landslide.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to landslide.
- Kedumba Valley Road and campground will be closed until late April 2024 for road repairs. Open to pedestrians over Easter Long weekend and weekends.
- Ingar Road is closed where it traverses private property at the western end. You can walk into Ingar campground via Andersons or Bedford Roads.
Blackheath, Mount Victoria and Bells Line of Road
- Williams Track (Govetts descent) and Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Entry is not permitted due to serious risk of injury or death. Alternative entry into the Grose Valley to Acacia Flat is from the Horse Track, via the Grand Canyon track.
- Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and walking track are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).
Canyons and rock climbing
- Climbing and canyoning areas in the Blue Mountains are open unless the access road or track is closed, or the site is listed in this alert.
- Malaita Point and Wall abseil routes are open, exit through Scenic World to Furber Stairs (no exit via Golden Stairs due to a landslide).

Closed areas: Newnes Campground Pedestrian Access Only
Newnes campground is available for walk-in access only starting from Saturday 23 September. The campground is remote and can only be accessed by long walks via the Old Coach Road or the Pipeline Track only.
Campers need to be fully self-sufficient and carry all supplies including drinking water. Campers are strongly advised to complete a trip intention form for their safety. Pack it in, pack it out – please take all rubbish with you when you leave.
There is no road access due to the Wolgan Road collapse and continuing land slip risk at Wolgan Gap. Wolgan Road is managed by Lithgow Council.

A ground pest control program will be undertaken in Upper Nepean State Conservation Area between 6pm and 6am every day, between 29 April and 30 Sep 2024. The Upper Nepean State Conservation Area is entirely within the Sydney Catchment Authority Special Area (Water Catchment). In order to protect the area, the Upper Nepean State Conservation Area is closed to public access. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: The Coast track partial closure
Walking the full length of The Coast track from Otford to Bundeena or Bundeena to Otford is not currently possible. This is due to several track closures along its length. These closures are necessary due to erosion and rockfall risk, and to allow ongoing track upgrade works.
Please note the following closures:
- Palm Jungle Loop track between Burning Palms and Werrong lookout is closed from Tuesday 16 January to Sunday 30 June 2024 for track upgrades.
- The Garie to Little Garie section of The Coast track is closed due to hazardous rockfalls and erosion.
- North Era campground is closed until further notice
- Garie Road, Garie Beach and the Garie precinct is closed until further notice. This is due to damage and subsidence to the road surface. Walkers approaching from the north (e.g. from Wattamolla or Bundeena) should exit the track via Curra Moors track.
Bushwalker access is available for the following sections of The Coast track:
- South bound access - Bundeena to Curra Moors track via Wattamolla and return only. No access to Garie Beach.
- North bound access - Available via North Era and return only. Access is via Garawarra Farm Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track during track upgrades.
- Figure 8 Pools access - Available via Garawarra Ridge trail and Burgh Ridge track via Garawarra Farm only.

On Wednesday 20 March 2024 works will commence to repair road verge areas along North Head Scenic Drive in Sydney Harbour National Park. The works will involve the supply, placement and compaction of stabilised, densely graded base in selected areas to remove the height difference from the new road surface to the road shoulder. Works will also involve maintenance and cleaning of existing culverts and creation of a table drain to improve storm-water management.
Traffic control will be on site at all times and there may be some minor delay to traffic movements.
Please obey all traffic control signage and construction worker requests while the project is underway.
Works are expected to take 3 weeks but may be delayed should weather conditions be unfavourable.

Other planned events: Demolition of Elizabeth Bay amentities block
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be demolishing the amenities block within the Elizabeth Bay picnic area. NPWS has determined that the Elizabeth Bay amenities block is dilapidated, unhygienic and does not meet NSW Health and Safety regulation standards or the Australian Building Code for a public toilet facility. The amenities have reached a point that it is no longer financially viable to continue to maintain and repair them. The amenities have been closed for approximately the last 3 years.
Works are estimated to begin early to mid April and will involve the establishment of a works compound, the safe demolition of the amenities block, concrete path and garden bed. Work will also include the disconnection of the water main and removal of the water meter.
To gain access to undertake the works the old telegraph poles and supports around the carpark area will be removed and then replaced with sandstone blocks to accommodate cars and trailers to the entire extent of the area. The area will be tidied up and a new surface laid to the carpark.
Access to the boat ramp and carpark will be temporarily closed for the duration of the works. Works are expected to take 4 – 6 work days. (weather permitting). NPWS contractors will undertake works Monday to Friday only during the hours of 7am to 5pm to keep impacts to local residents to a minimum.

The eastern section of Malabar Headland National Park will be closed on the following dates/times due to ANZAC Rifle Range operations:
- Each Saturday, 8am to 5pm.
- The 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month, 8am to 5pm.

- Anzac Day - Thursday 25 April 2024 (11am - 5pm)
- Sydney Shoot - Friday 26 April 2024 (8am - 5pm)

Do not enter the eastern section of the national park (including Boora Point walking track) when:
- Red flags are flying above the range
- The 'rifle range in use' warning signs are displayed at the park entry (South Maroubra Beach and Fishermans Road carpark).
- Park entry gates are closed.
The western section of the national park (Western Escarpment walking track) remains open when the rifle range is in use.

Safety alerts: Remote walking track conditions
Remote routes within the Kanangra Wilderness Area including Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail have been impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage.
In some places, tracks are no longer visible and are not easy to navigate, taking longer to traverse than expected. Limited to zero water sources are currently available along routes.
If you plan to walk in the area, please ensure you have an appropriate level of experience, navigation skills and equipment including Personal Locator Beacon (PLB).
Mobile reception is limited so alternative communication methods are strongly recommended.

Fire bans: Wollemi NP Fire Ban
A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.
The following campgrounds are exempt:
- Coorongooba, Ganguddy-Dunns Swamp, Newnes campgrounds in Wollemi National Park.
During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They're under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Closed areas: Commemoration Flat amenities block closed
From March to June 2024, contractors will be demolishing and replacing the amenities block at Commemoration Flat and upgrading the associated services. During these construction works, the northern part of Commemoration Flat carpark and the amenities block will be fenced off and occupied, and work crews will be on site.
Toilets will remain available at the visitors centre and cricket pitch area. The surrounding picnic areas and barbecue facilities will continue to be accessible during construction.

Safety alerts: Major Roadworks in Jilliby State Conservation Area - Commencing 27 December 2023
Major roadworks are scheduled to commence from Wednesday 27th December 2023 in Jilliby State Conservation Area (Southern Precinct) and part of Ourimbah State Forest.
Partial and intermittent road closures should be expected. The roads that will be affected are:
- Red Hill Road
- Prestons Ridge Road
- Bradleys Point Road
- Campbells Point Road and
- Tooheys Road.
Visitors are asked to avoid the area (if possible). Otherwise, please be aware of trucks and machinery using and working on the above roads and to drive to the conditions. Warning signs and traffic control will be in place. Work is expected to be completed by June 2024. The work is funded as part of the Fire Access and Fire Trail (FAFT) program aimed at providing safe and strategic fire trails for fire response and access.

Middle Camp DA/2238/2017 - has begun works in the Catherine Hill Bay area adjacent to lands managed by Munmorah State Conservation Area. These works due to the location now has temporary closures to access trails for Munmorah SCA. This is necessary for the contractor managing this development in order to maintain a safe construction site and public safety.
NPWS apologises for the inconvenience and are unable to provide alternate access.
This temporary closure affects:
- Collier fire trail
- Powerline fire trail and
- Middle Camp fire trail
Please be advised that these closures will not stop access to fire vehicles in emergencies and does not cause a safety concern.

Parts of Wyrrabalong National Park will be closed between 1700 (5pm) Friday 1 March 2024 to 0500 (5am) 30 June 2024 for fox control ground shoot operations. These operations aim to protect threatened species, such as the Little Tern or New Holland Mouse.
When active, the shoot operation area will be delineated by signage advising visitors "do not enter" during the night-time operation.

North Mackerel track is permanently closed due to a potential risk of rockfalls and unstable cliff edges in the Great Mackerel Beach area.
The only designated land access to or from Great Mackerel Beach is via Mackerel track to the north, which intersects with Resolute track.
Due to land instability and risk to personal safety, there is no through or return access to or from the following places:
- The south end of Great Mackerel Beach via The Basin or Mackerel trail
- The west of Great Mackerel Beach via North Mackerel track, which is closed.
Please be aware of the risks associated with visiting natural areas, including rock falls, unstable edges, falling branches and interactions with wildlife.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be conducting a baiting program using Canid Pest Ejectors (CPEs) and fresh meat baits containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes. The 1080 bating program is ongoing and will continue to be conducted between 01 February 2024 and 31 August 2024 within Winburndale Nature Reserve. All baiting locations will be identifiable by signs.
Please be reminded that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estate. Pets and working dogs may be affected and must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity of the nature reserve and must not enter the baiting location (as 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Red Hands Cave walking track (also known as Campfire Creek walking track) is undergoing a partial closure until May 2024, for extensive flood damage repairs.
Repairs are underway for the lower section between Link track and Red Hands Cave through the gully. This pathway will be closed until May 2024.
The rest of Link track and Red Hands Cave/Campfire Creek walking track is open, with access now available all the way from Red Hands Cave through to the causeway.
Red Hands Cave remains open to the public during this time, with vehicle access via the roadway and carpark.

Closed areas: Six Foot track - Bowtells Bridge closure
Bowtells swing bridge on Six Foot track is closed to protect public safety. An upgrade is being planned and the bridge is expected to reopen in May 2024. Signs and barriers are in place to prevent access onto the bridge.
Crown Lands, which manages the bridge, is advising track users not to attempt to cross Coxs River. Any attempts to cross the river are at your own risk and are discouraged due to the potential for slips or falls, rainfall and risk of flash flooding.

Closed parks: Yiraaldiya National Park closed during the establishment of feral predator-free area
Yiraaldiya National Park is a feral predator-free area. This means that feral predators, such as red foxes and feral cats, are being eradicated from the park. Locally extinct native wildlife are being reintroduced, including eastern bettongs, koalas and long-nosed bandicoots. For this reason, there is no access to the park while the feral predator-free area is being established. Once complete, the park will open for sustainable visitor access and enjoyment, and educational and research opportunities.
During the closure period visitors may not visit the park, and only NPWS staff and authorised contractors and volunteers are allowed entry to the park.

Fire bans: Park Fire Ban - Mudgee Reserves
A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed.
However the following campgrounds are exempt in the following reserves:

- Caretakers Cottage
Goulburn River National Park
- Spring Gully campground
- Big River campground
During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamine) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:
- They're under direct control of an adult
- The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
- There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)
If a Total Fire Ban is in place, different rules apply. Contact the local park office before bringing a gas or electric barbecue or cooker.

Pink Caves are closed to visitors because they are extremely unsafe to visit.
The caves are filled with water at high tide. Even at low tide they can be dangerous, as ocean swell sends unpredictable waves sweeping into the caves and across the rock shelf. Sudden rogue waves can cause serious injury and may drag visitors across the rocks or out to sea.
There’s no lifeguard service in this area and access for emergency services is limited. There’s no approved walking track to this location. Access to the caves involves walking over a rock shelf which is slippery, uneven and dangerous.
Visitors should take care when traversing all rock shelves and coastal areas located within Munmorah State Conservation Area.

Safety alerts: Rock fishing safety
Rock fishing is a popular activity for many national park visitors and your safety whilst fishing is important. Parts of the NSW Central Coast are a declared high risk area due to large swells and hazardous surf conditions. In these high risk areas under the NSW Rock Fishing Safety Act 2016, you are required by law to wear an appropriate life jacket. This includes children and anyone helping you fish. This is regulated by NSW Fisheries and poses an on the spot $100 fine if non-compliant.
Before rock fishing you should always:
Stay safe, always watch the local conditions, never turn your back on the ocean and never fish alone.

Closed areas: Flat Rock track partial closure
The section of Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance, is permanently closed as the old track passes through private property near Killarney Point.
Please note:
- Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
- Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.
