The following areas are closed due to water over the road and slippery surfaces

 

  • Middle Road East (road between Olive Downs campground to Toona Gate Road)
  • Jump Up Loop Road

Middle Road West (road between Toona Gate Road and Cameron Corner Road) is open to 4WD vehicles)

Roads will be reopened when the roads are dry and safe to drive on

Closed parks: Park Closed due to damaged roads and Transport NSW road closures

Narriearra Caryapundy Swamp National Park is currently closed due to heavy rainfall causing damaged roads and Transport NSW road closures

  • Many creek crossings & roads are closed and impassable due to severe rainfall causing dangerous conditions.
  • Roads are likely to be cut off and there is a high risk of flash flooding
  • These areas will re-open as soon as they are safe.

This alert will be updated when conditions change.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters, so you’ll need to reschedule your visit and avoid travel through areas in this park. Other planned events: Notice of Aerial Baiting using Poison 1080 to control foxes and wild dogs.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an aerial baiting program in this park from Monday 22 April to Friday 3 May 2024.

The operation will involve the use of meat baits containing Poison1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of foxes, and wild dogs.

The program is designed to minimise the impact of foxes on wildlife, especially after the 2019-2020 bushfires, and to minimise the impact of foxes and wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

All baiting locations will be identified by signs. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting locations. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

We advise that the free push button gas BBQ's at Coach and Horses campground are currently being refurbished and are receiving an upgrade.  The BBQs will be re-instated as soon as possible. Fire bans: Park fire ban

There is a 'no solid fuel fire policy' in this park all year round. This park fire ban will remain in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

Other incidents: Visitation restrictions

There are a number of restrictions on visitation and access by the general public to Yathong, Nombinnie and Round Hill Nature Reserves and Nombinnie State Conservation Area. 

  • These reserves are not available for overnight camping or hiking. Visitation is restricted to day visits only.
  • Vehicle access is restricted to the public roads passing through or adjoining the reserves. Management trails are closed to vehicles. However you are welcome to walk on the trails.
  • Bird watchers are welcome to walk into the reserves and along management trails. However take care to make sure you can navigate back to your car - it is easy to get disorientated in mallee country.
  • Trips to Round Hill Nature Reserve by bird watching clubs can be done by prior arrangement.
  • There are a number of scientific research programs happening in the reserves and visitors should not disturb any field equipment if they come across it.
  • The reserves are closed periodically to allow management programs to be undertaken. Please check the website for closures prior to visits.
