Closed areas: Aerial spraying program in Crowdy Bay National Park

Some areas of this park are closed between Monday 1 May to Friday 5 May 2017 within Crowdy Bay National Park. These areas are closed due to the aerial spraying program of the weed plant species Bitou Bush. Spraying will not be undertaken within 150 meters of the campground, nearby residences or during weather conditions where spray drift may impact on these areas. Areas treated will be sprayed with Glyphosate and/or Metsulfuron Methyl (Roundup and/or Brushoff).

Closed areas are:

  • Beach Access Kylie Beach campground
  • Beach Access Fig Tree and Mermaid picnic areas
  • Beach Access Abbey Creek
  • Humbug fire trail 
  • Fig Tree Road
  • Mermaid and Fig Tree picnic areas
  • Abbey Creek picnic area
  • Diamond Head Loop walk, Forest walking track, Mermaid lookout track, Metcalfes walking track

Areas will be closed to public access and will be patrolled and cleared of people by NPWS prior to spraying. These areas will remain closed until barriers and signs are removed. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Other planned events: 1080 wild dog control program

An 1080 poison wild dog program will commence from Monday 8 May until Monday 29 May 2017 in Hat Head National Park. The main trails included in the program are:

  • Kilmores trail
  • Honey Talk trail
  • Russells trail. 

Park signage will be erected at the entrances to Hat Head National Park. Public are reminded that no domestic pets are allowed in the national park and 1080 poison baits will be in the area.

Some areas of this park are closed due to storm damage. This closure may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible. The closed areas are:

  • Banda Banda Road - closed due to tree fall and land slip 
  • Banda Banda Forest loop walk - closed due to tree fall
