    There are 7 areas in Kosciuszko National Park. To get there:

    From Canberra via Jindabyne to Thredbo-Perisher and Lower Snowy River areas:

    • Travel around 100km along the Monaro Highway and through Cooma
    • Continue onto Jindabyne Road (signs for Kosciuszko Road) for 45km to Jindabyne
    • For Thredbo: follow Kosciuszko Road through Jindabyne for 3km then turn left onto Alpine Way. Thredbo Village is 33km on the right (park entry fees apply)
    • For Perisher: follow Kosciuszko Road through Jindabyne for 33km to Perisher (park entry fees apply).
    • Charlotte Pass is 8km beyond Perisher. Access during winter is by oversnow transport from Perisher Village.
    • For Lower Snowy River: follow Kosciuszko Road through Jindabyne for 1.5km, then turn left onto Barry Way and drive 37.3km to the park entrance

    From Cooma to Selwyn, High Plains, Khancoban, Yarrangobilly, and Tumut areas:

    • Travel through Cooma
    • Turn right onto Snowy Mountains Highway and drive 51km to Adaminaby
    • Enter the park 14km from Adaminaby on the Snowy Mountains Highway

    From the Hume Highway via Tumut to Talbingo, Yarrangobilly, High Plains and Selwyn areas:

    • Travel via Tumut on the Snowy Mountains Highway, or from Tumbarumba via the Elliot Way and Cabramurra to Kiandra Link Road.
    • Please note that Cabramurra-Khancoban Rd (KNP5) is closed from June Long weekend- October Long weekend.

    Road quality

    Snow chains:

    The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) recommends snow chains are carried by all vehicles driving in the park in winter, including 4WD and AWD, in the event of extreme weather. Visit the Live Traffic website for current conditions.

    It’s compulsory for all 2WD vehicles to carry snow chains in winter, between June and October long weekends, in the Thredbo-Perisher area. Read our snow driving in Kosciuszko tips.

    Park entry fees:

    Winter peak From Friday June long weekend to Monday October long weekend: $29 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $12; bus passengers $11.45 per adult, $3.60 per child per day (24hrs). Find out more about the Winter entry surcharge.

    Rest of the year From Tuesday after October long weekend to Thursday before June long weekend: $17 per vehicle per day (24hrs); motorcycles $7; bus passengers $6.60 per adult, $2.20 per child per day (24hrs).

    Yarrangobilly Caves (year-round) $4 per vehicle per day, unless general park entry has been paid.

    Passes: Single and Multi-Day passes available from entry stations, NPWS visitor centres and pay machines. For Thredbo-Perisher area, Khancoban area and Selwyn area, Single and Multi-Day passes are also available via the Park'nPay app.

    Annual Passes available for purchase online or at NPWS visitor centres. Short Breaks Pass: $68 for 5 days at price of 4 days (not valid winter) is available at local NPWS visitor centres and entry stations on Alpine Way and Kosciuszko Rd.     Safety messages

    All Kosciuszko National Park visitors planning a long hike, off-track or overnight adventure, or visiting a remote part of the park, are recommended to fill in the trip intention form and carry a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). Find out more about hiring a PLB and completing a trip intention form on the dedicated iPads available at Snowy Region Visitor Centre, Tumut Visitor Centre and the Perisher NSW National Parks office.

    Alpine safety

    Alpine areas present special safety issues. Conditions can be extreme and may change rapidly, particularly in winter. It’s important to be prepared and find out how to stay safe in alpine areas.

    Mobile safety

    Dial Triple Zero (000) in an emergency. Download the Emergency Plus app before you visit, it helps emergency services locate you using your smartphone's GPS. Please note there is limited mobile phone reception in this park and you’ll need mobile reception to call Triple Zero (000).

    Permitted

    Cycling

    Cycling is permitted on public roads, and on most management trails outside wilderness areas. Cycling is permitted only on selected trails within wilderness areas. Riders please give way to walkers.

    Fishing

    You can fish in rivers and streams between the October and June long weekends. A current NSW recreational fishing licence is required to fish in all waters. Fishing in dams and lakes is permitted year-round, but some waterways may close temporarily or have restrictions. Refer to the NSW Recreational Freshwater Fishing Guide for information.

    Prohibited

    Filming and photography of NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff

    Photography or video recording of NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service staff or contractors is prohibited in Kosciuszko National Park.

    Installing and operating camera and video equipment

    It’s an offence to install and operate camera and video equipment in NSW national parks without prior consent. This includes trail cameras, wildlife cameras and other remote surveillance cameras.

    Drones

    Flying a drone for recreational purposes is prohibited in this area. Drones may affect public enjoyment, safety and privacy, interfere with park operations, or pose a threat to wildlife. See the Drones in Parks policy.

    This area may be a declared Drone Exclusion Zone, or may be subject to Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) rules for flying near airports, aerodromes and helicopter landing sites. See CASA's Drone Flyer Rules.

    Commercial filming and photography

    Commercial filming or photography is prohibited without prior consent. You must apply for permission and contact the local office.

    Pets

    Pets and domestic animals (other than certified assistance animals) are not permitted. Find out which regional parks allow dog walking and see the pets in parks policy for more information.

    Smoking

    NSW national parks are no smoking areas. The alpine resorts of Thredbo, Perisher, Charlotte Pass, Selwyn, Ski Rider and Kosciuszko Tourist Park are exempt, though some commercial and outdoor places within these resorts may have no smoking areas.
