Fire bans: Park Fire Ban - Pilliga Reserves

A park fire ban is in place in this park and remains in effect unless otherwise extended or removed. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Gas and electric barbecues and cookers are permitted as long as:

  • They're under direct control of an adult
  • The ground within 2m of the barbecue is cleared of all flammable materials
  • There's an adequate supply of water (minimum of a bucket)

If a Total Fire Ban is in place, please contact the local park office before using a gas and or electric barbecue or cooker.

There is “no solid fuel fire policy” in this park and is in effect during fire season from Sunday 1 October 2017 to Saturday 31 March 2018. During park fire ban periods, all campfire and solid fuel (wood, heat beads, charcoal, briquettes, hexamite) barbecues and stoves are prohibited. Ground baits containing ACTA 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) will be laid along various tracks and trails within Gundabooka National Park and Gundabooka State Conservation Area from Monday 2 October  to Friday 1 December 2017 to control wild dog and fox populations. 1080 is poisonous to humans if swallowed and harmful if absorbed by the skin or inhaled. The flush toilets at Camp Blackman 1 will be closed until further notice due to construction work taking place on the amenities. The showers and laundry room are unaffected and remain open. Portable toilets will be available in Camp Blackman 1 while the flush toilets are closed. Toilets are available in all other campgrounds and visitor precincts. We encourage visitors to use the alternative toilets in preference to the portable toilets at Camp Blackman 1. For further information please call the NPWS  Warrumbungle Visitor Centre on (02) 6825 4364 or the NPWS Coonabarabran area office on (02) 68421311. NPWS apologise for any inconvenience caused.
