Other planned events: 1080 baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service is conducting a 1080 baiting program for conservation purposes. This will occur in Yanga State Conservation Area, Yanga Nature Reserve and Yanga National Park between Monday 12 February and Saturday 3 March 2018. Most visitor areas will remain open for the duration of this operation, but Yanga Homestead precinct will be closed to the public from Thursday 22 February to Saturday 3 March 2018.

The baited areas include internal trails and along boundary lines in the north and south of Sturt Highway, east of Balranald. Main entrances and other strategic locations will be sign-posted to advise people of the presence of the baits. The program is targeting rabbits, foxes and feral pigs, and will benefit the local native mammals, birds and lizards.

Adjoining property holders and visitors to these national and regional parks should be aware of the baits. Keep all animals (especially domestic and working dogs) under close supervision during this time. Owners with domestic dogs are reminded to ensure their dogs do not wander, because dogs are highly susceptible to 1080 poisoning.

For further information regarding this program please contact the NPWS Yanga area office on (03) 5020 1764.
