Closed areas: Southern end of Wodi Wodi walking track

The southern end of the Wodi Wodi walking track will not be accessible from Lawrence Hargrave Drive, Coalcliff from 25 August 2017 until 10 November 2017. This is due to maintenance works scheduled as part of the Wollongong City Council Stage 1 of the Grand Pacific Walk project. The only entry and exit point to Wodi Wodi walking track is via Stanwell Park Railway Station (northern end). Closed areas: Change in access to Wattamolla Beach and Lagoon

NPWS is upgrading the track to Wattamolla Beach and Lagoon. The works are part of a broader upgrade of the Royal Coast track from Bundeena to Garie Beach. The track upgrade will be undertaken between September 2017 and May 2018. Access to the beach and lagoon during this time will be via the Providential Point track, as indicated in this map.

Closed areas: Garie Road closed for roadworks

Garie Road will be closed from Monday 14 August to Tuesday 31 October 2017, 7am–6pm. NSW Roads and Maritime services will be conducting essential slope stabilisation and drainage upgrade works during this time. The road will not be closed on Weekends or Public Holidays.  The closed areas are:

  • Garie Beach and picnic area
  • Little Garie Beach
  • Governor Game lookout

Closed areas: Areas closed due to rock falls

Some areas of this park are closed to public access due to rock fall hazards. Closed areas are: 

  • The northern section of the Mt Keira Ring track that extends west from the Mt Pleasant track to the stairs leading up to Queen Elizabeth Drive
  • All areas above Mt Keira Ring track to Mt Keira summit, except for the Dave Walsh track and the rock-climbing area on the western face of Mt Keira.

Safety alerts: Audley precinct in wet weather

Access across the Audley Weir may be closed due to river flooding during times of wet weather. During wet weather, NPWS advise park visitors to visit Live Traffic NSW to ascertain the status of the Weir crossing before commencing their travel to the park. During times of closure, access to Bundeena, Maianbar residential areas, Royal National Park Visitor Centre, including the Audley Dance hall and cafe, is via McKell Ave Waterfall.

  • Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger. However, it is recommended that bushwalking only be undertaken during daylight hours because of the presence of cliff edges and other hazards.
