Other incidents: Pages Creek - hazard reduction burn

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and Fire and Rescue NSW will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Lane Cove National Park on Tuesday 26 September 2017. The hazard reduction will be carried out in the bushland below Magdala Road, Pittwater Road and Gilda Street, North Ryde.

The Great North Walk will remain open.

Expect heavy smoke between Magdala Park, North Ryde and Chatswood West.

Other planned events: Valley View hazard reduction operation

National Parks and Wildlife Service and Fire and Rescue NSW will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Lane Cove National Park on Wednesday 20 September 2017. The hazard reduction will be carried out  in the bushland between Shirley Road and Valley View Close, Roseville, east of Valley View walking track and north of Blue Gum walking track. The following walking tracks will be closed until further notice:

  • Valley View walking track between Shirley Road Roseville and Blue Gum Creek, and
  • Blue Gum walking track between Greville Street Oval, Chatswood, and Lady Game Drive West Chatswood

Closed areas: West Head Road temporary closures

Once a month several times a year there will be temporary (up to 5 minutes) road closures on West Head Road, from where it intersects with Liberator General San Martin Drive to Resolute picnic area and West Head lookout. This is to allow for Manly Warringah Cycling Club cycle races. Closure details are as follows:

  • The road closures will cover all lanes in both directions from 6am to 9am in daylight savings months and to 9.30am in other months.
  • The closures will be managed under an RMS Road Occupancy Licence, which has an approved stop/slow traffic control process using pilot vehicles to lead vehicles at slow speed. This may cause traffic delays of no more than 5 minutes.
  • Access to all West Head visitor attractions between where Liberator General San Martin Drive gate intersects with the southern end of West Head Road, and north out to West Head lookout will be affected by these temporary closures. 

The planned dates for the races will be Sunday 23 July, Sunday 13 August, Sunday 10 September, Sunday 22 October, Sunday 12 November and Sunday 10 December 2017. Trucks will be stockpiling material near the Perimeter trail entrance between 7am and 5pm weekdays during December. The entrance to the trail can be accessed via Booralie Road near the Terrey Hills Animal Hospital. Trail users are advised to use caution when in the area.

Casuarina track between Boree Road and Davidson picnic area, Forestville is closed due to safety concerns regarding the stairway down to the picnic area. Lyrebird track is the recommended alternative access which connects to the Governor Philip Walk or Ferguson Street. Penalties apply for non-compliance. Closed areas: Flat Rock track - partial closure

A section of Flat Rock track - from the Killarney Drive entrance to the Downpatrick Street entrance - is currently closed until further notice due to track safety issues where the track passes through private property near Killarney Point:

  • Walkers heading west should exit Flat Rock track at the eastern end of Killarney Drive and use Killarney Drive until you reach Downpatrick Street. Then walk down the street and re-enter Flat Rock track from the Downpatrick Street fire trail.
  • Walkers heading east should exit Flat Rock track at the Downpatrick Street fire trail and use Downpatrick Street, then Killarney Drive until you reach the end of Killarney Drive. Re-enter Flat Rock track from the Killarney Drive entrance.

Closed areas: Lane Cove National Park toilet closures

From Monday 7 December 2015, some toilets within this park will be closed during the week, opening only on weekends and public holidays. Toilets affected are:

  • Blue Wren and Illoura (Areas 4-5)
  • Carters Creek (Area 9)
  • Scribbly Gums (Area 17)
  • Bakers Flat (Area 28)
  • Haynes Flat (Area 32)

  • Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park is open sunrise to sunset but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

    • The entrance to Bobbin Head and Appletree Bay is closed from 8pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 5.30pm to 6am at other times of the year.
    • Gates to West Head are closed from 8.30pm to 6am during daylight savings periods, and from 6pm to 6am at other times of the year.
    • No vehicle access to The Basin campground or to Barrenjoey Headland
  • Park entry fees:

    $12 per vehicle per day. Bus: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child (per day). There is no daily entry fee for teachers/educational supervisors (1 adult per 10 children).
