Availability
Tours available every 20 minutes, 10am – 3pm, depending on suitable weather and availability (closed Christmas Day).

Join a volunteer-run lighthouse tour to the top of the lighthouse and take advantage of the 360 degree views of the Pacific Ocean from the most easterly point on the Australian mainland. The official whale watching season runs from May to November each year. A wide variety of migratory and non-migratory whale species inhabit east coast waters, and whale watching opportunities exist year round.

Park info

  • in Cape Byron State Conservation Area in the North Coast region
    • Cape Byron State Conservation Area is open all hours, but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.
    • Cape Byron Lighthouse precinct is open 8am to sunset.
    • The Maritime Museum in the former Lighthouse Keeper’s office at the base of the lighthouse is open 10am to 4pm daily.
    • Opening before 8am for events or disabled access can be arranged by prior notice – contact NPWS Byron Bay office during business hours 02 6620 9300.
  • Park entry fees:

    $8 per vehicle per hour/$4 per hour motorcycles at the Cape Byron Lighthouse and Information Centre carpark.

    $4 per vehicle per hour at Captain Cook lookout, Cosy Corner, and The Pass carparks.

    There's coin-operated and credit card payment facilities.
