Tacking Point whale census

Sea Acres National Park

Celebrate the start of the 2017 whale season by joining us for the ORRCA Annual Whale Census at Tacking Point Lighthouse, Sea Acres National Park.

Sunday 25 June 2017, 9am–4pm

Sea Acres National Park
Easy. Suitable for all ages.
Meeting point
Tacking Point Lighthouse
Please note
In the case of bad weather on the day, please check our Facebook page to confirm whether this event is running.

The information gathered by NPWS and ORRCA (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia) helps us obtain a 'snapshot' of whale movements and behaviour around Australia on that day. This data is analysed and used to understand more about these wonderful animals. We also learn how we can best protect them now and into the future. This major wildlife event can be enjoyed by the whole community and you can stay for a long or short time.

To get involved download the NPWS Wild About Whales app and contribute to the live feed of whale sightings along the NSW coastline. Our NPWS guides will hold interactive fun activities, including prizes for the children. It's a good idea to bring along binoculars, but if you forget we'll have a few to borrow on the day.

You can also ring the ORRCA hotline with your sightings on (02) 9415 3333.
