- Before or after your long hike, nearby Dangars Gorge campground offers a tranquil spot to camp under the stars.
If you’re ready for a walk that combines excellent views with a challenging workout, put on your hiking boots and head for the Salisbury Waters walking track. This long day trek is an excellent introduction to gorge bushwalking and a great way to explore Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.
The track starts from and returns to Dangars Falls picnic area. There's brilliant wildlife and birdwatching as you walk, so make sure to look for the scrub wrens and white throated tree creepers amongst the dry gums and heath.
Veering off the McDirtys walking track there are optional detours to Mihi Falls and Sarum lookout, making perfect backdrops for a picnic lunch.
The last leg of your journey involves a steep descent, where you’ll get the chance to see the unique dry rainforest up close. Cool off with a refreshing swim in the crystal clear pool while you take in the breathtaking views of the gorges from the ground up.
Please allow plenty of time for your walk. It’s 8 km to the bottom of the gorge and another 8km steep ascent on your return, plus the distance of any side trips. The walk is also remote and in a location with no mobile reception, so stay safe and plan ahead.

Oxley Wild Rivers National Park is always open but may have to close at times due to poor weather or fire danger.

There are 3 areas in Oxley Wild Rivers National Park where you'll need day use vehicle permits: Halls Peak campground and picnic area, Riverside campground and picnic area, and Youdales Hut campground and picnic area. Day use vehicle permits can be bought online or by calling the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757. If camping, permit fees are included in the campground fee.
