Closed areas: Parts of Blue Mountains National Park closed

Many walking tracks, roads and fire trails within Blue Mountains National Park remain closed following sustained wet weather causing subsidence hazards, major landslides or infrastructure upgrades. 

The following areas are closed:

Katoomba and Leura

  • Honeymoon Bridge is closed due to rockfall risk.
  • Fern Bower, Amphitheatre and Leura Forest Tracks are closed due to multiple landslides and damage.
  • Ruined Castle, Golden Stairs, Solitary Loop and Federal Pass west of Scenic World are closed due to multiple landslides.
  • Access to Mount Solitary from Kedumba Valley will remain temporarily closed until saftey works are complete. 
  • Lone Lyrebird track is closed between Gordon Road and the War Memorial, due to subsidence. Detour is in place.
  • Sections of Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Cliff Top Walk) and Round Walk are closed between Prince Henry picnic area and Scenic World from Tuesday 9 April to end of June 2024 for track maintenance. Follow detour on Cliff Drive. Access to Furber Steps is from Prince Henry picnic area (Katoomba Falls Kiosk). Detours in place.
  • Bridal Veil View lookout and track (Leura) are closed from Wednesday 10 April for maintenance.
  • Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Cliff Top Walk) is closed between Gordon Falls picnic area and Elysian Rock lookout, due to a landslide. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Prince Henry Cliff walk (part of Grand Cliff Top Walk) is closed between Fern Bower track and Echo Tree & Flat Rock lookout, due to a landslide. Please use Cliff Drive as short detour. 
  • Part of Lindeman Pass is closed due to a major landslide below Gladstone lookout. Roberts Pass is closed due to rockfall and landslide hazards.   
  • The six foot track is affected by multiple road closures.

Wentworth Falls and Woodford 

  • Part of Undercliff Track (part of Grand Cliff Top Walk) is closed between Princes Rock and Fletchers Lookout due to a landslide. 
  • Valley of the Waters track is closed below Sylvia Falls. There is no access to Roberts Pass, Vera Falls, Hippocrene Falls or Wentworth Falls from Valley of the Waters.
  • Charles Darwin walk (part of the Grand Cliff Top walk) is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place to provide directions to Wentworth Falls Picnic Area. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information.
  • Part of National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing) is closed due to major landslide. 
  • Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed due to multiple landslides.
  • Kedumba Valley Road will be closed until 8th May 2024 for road repairs - open to pedestrians over weekends. Kedumba campground is closed until the 8th May 2024, including weekends.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria and Bells Line of Road

  • There is no vehicle access to Dunphy's Camping Area and Wild Dog Mountains track heads due to a major landslide on Megalong Road. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for road updates.

  • Williams Track (Govetts descent) and Rodriguez Pass are closed due to rockfalls and landslides. Entry is not permitted due to serious risk of injury or death.
  • Pulpit Rock Reserve, lookouts and walking track are closed. Visit the Blue Mountains City Council website for information. Pulpit Rock walking track from Popes Glen is open as far as the NPWS boundary (as shown on Google maps).

Adventure Recreation, canyons, abseiling and rock climbing

  • Some adventure recreation areas and routes are specifically closed where the access or exit road/track is mentioned above.

Closed areas: Luxfords Trail Closed

Luxfords Trail is closed while track maintenance and repairs are undertaken.

The eastern and western extents of the park can be accessed by Mainwaring Street, Ropes Crossing and Callistemon Circuit, Jordan Springs.

Closed parks: Cattai National Park partial closed due flood damage - Mitchell Park open

Cattai National Park is closed from 8 April 2024 to 6 May 2024 due to flood damage. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Open :- Mitchell Park picnic area and most walking trails are open as per normal operating hours. Creek Flat Track remains closed due to flood damage.

Remember, it’s never safe to drive, ride or walk through flood waters. Roads into and throughout the park are / may also be closed. Check Live Traffic NSW for up-to-date information and contact the local park office.

There will be scheduled vegetation and surface maintenance works on the trail network in Berowra Valley Regional Park and Berowra Valley National Park, starting Monday 8 April 2024 through to Friday 19 April 2024, weather permitting:

The trails affected are:

  • Schofields trail between Schofields Parade Pennant Hills, Pecan Place and McKinley Place in Cherrybrook.
  • Apple Tree trail in Cherrybrook.
  • Daphne trail between Apple Tree Drive and Daphne Place.
  • Patricia trail between Tuscan Way and Patricia Place.

Please be cautious around machinery and crews and wait for instructions before passing.

Safety alerts: Swimming safety in Berowra Valley National Park

Swimming is not advisable in Berowra Creek at certain times as the water may be subject to variable pollution levels and algal blooms. Please refer to the Hornsby Shire Council website before swimming in Berowra Creek. Alternatively you can call the Hornsby Council 24 hour information line on 9847 6666 or the Algal information line on 1800 999 457.

Swimming at Fishponds is not advised at any time due to heavy water pollution.

Closed parks: Yiraaldiya National Park closed during the establishment of feral predator-free area

Yiraaldiya National Park is a feral predator-free area. This means that feral predators, such as red foxes and feral cats, are being eradicated from the park. Locally extinct native wildlife are being reintroduced, including eastern bettongs, koalas and long-nosed bandicoots. For this reason, there is no access to the park while the feral predator-free area is being established. Once complete, the park will open for sustainable visitor access and enjoyment, and educational and research opportunities.

During the closure period visitors may not visit the park, and only NPWS staff and authorised contractors and volunteers are allowed entry to the park.
