“We had our company Christmas barbecue here last year, which made a great change from the usual boring bar venue.”

Situated alongside the river, encircled by tall trees and with a large grassy area, Haynes Flat picnic area is a perfect place to enjoy a picnic, barbecue and ball games.

The picnic area features a large shelter, picnic tables, wood barbecues and flush toilets, making it well-suited for a marquee, celebratory events and corporate groups.

Getting there:

Haynes Flat picnic area is within Lane Cove National Park. To get there:

  • Enter the park from Lady Game Drive, West Chatswood.
  • Drive along Max Allen Drive, parallel to Lane Cove River, and continue until you see Haynes Flat picnic area on the left.

Sealed road - 2WD (no long vehicle access) - All weather

Parking:

Parking is available at Haynes Flat picnic area, as well as adjoining picnic areas, located a short walk from this site.

You should know:

  • It’s a good idea to put sunscreen on before you set out and remember to take a hat
  • Remember to take your binoculars if you want to bird watch
  • You'll need to bring your own drinking and cooking water
  • Ice are available at the park office at the nearby Lane Cove Tourist Park
  • Firewood is not supplied and may not be collected from the park
  • It can be a busy place on the weekend, so parking might be limited.
  • If you’re bushwalking in this park, it’s a good idea to bring a topographic map and compass, or a GPS.
  • A current NSW recreational fishing licence is required when fishing in all waters

  • Wheelchair facilities are provided to the picnic table at this location

Opening hours:

Haynes Flat picnic area is:

  • Open 9am-6pm outside of daylight savings periods
  • During daylight savings periods, Halfway Point picnic area is open 9am-7pm.

Fees:

Vehicle entry fee:

  • $7 per vehicle per day.
  • Bus passengers: $4.40 per adult, $2.20 per child.

Bookings:

Total picnic area capacity for up to 500 people, shelter capacity 60 people; 4 picnic tables,  and car parking for up to 50 vehicles.

Fire ban (Saturday 1 November) A total fire ban has been declared by the Commissioner of the Rural Fire Service which includes this park. The total fire ban applies on Saturday 1 November for the entire 24 hour period. Total fire ban rules apply. This ban may be extended and any extension will be posted as soon as possible.

All tracks and trails are CLOSED within the park to walkers and cyclists. Designated picnic areas remain open.
