The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking trail maintenance on Rileys Trail, adjacent to Tom Groggin Camping Area, in April 2024.

Trail users are to be aware of machinery movements and may experience some delays when riding or walking on the trail. Please obey all directions from NPWS staff and contractors.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will be undertaking essential fire trail maintenance works on Cascade Trail, between the Alpine Way and Cascade Hut, throughout April and May 2024. The trail will remain open to visitors. Trail users should expect short delays to their walk or ride.

Please obey all directions from NPWS staff and contractors. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

From mid-March to the end of June 2024, small areas of Geehi Flats campground will be subject to construction work to upgrade visitor facilities. The campground will remain open, although machinery will be operating in the campground during this time. Do not enter construction areas.

Closed areas: No parking at Porcupine track/Snowies Alpine walk track head

Sections of Porcupine Road are closed for construction works until June 2024 with access for locals and pedestrians only. There is no parking at the track head of Porcupine track and the Snowies Alpine walk for the duration of this closure. Walkers will need to park in Perisher Valley carpark and walk to the track head from there.

Safety alerts: Works on Kosciuszko Road and Charlottes Way and changed access to Charlotte Pass to Porcupine Rocks walking track

Essential Energy are completing a network upgrade to the power supply at Charlotte Pass Snow Resort from December 2023 to April 2024. The works will affect:

  • Traffic conditions on Kosciuszko Road and Charlottes Way between Spencers Creek and Charlotte Pass Village. Please expect short delays on these roads.
  • Access to the Charlotte Pass to Porcupine Rocks walking track. Please expect diversions and follow signage on the track.

Safety alerts: Ongoing helicopter operations at Skitube Carpark D

Helicopter operations for the Snowies Alpine Walk Stage 4 construction will be occurring from Ski Tube Carpark D on various dates throughout summer. Operations will affect access to:

  • Bundilla accessible track
  • Thredbo Valley track
  • Muzzlewood track
  • Bullocks track at Bullocks Flat.

During helicopter operations, Ski Tube Carpark D will be temporarily closed, and access to the above tracks will be as signed through Carpark C. You may experience short delays on the Bundilla accessible track during operations.

Other planned events: Track upgrades on Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk

Sections of Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk are affected by upgrades from Friday 10 November 2023 to mid-April 2024. Expect delays and diversions, and follow signage on tracks.

Repairs will take place on the Charlotte Pass to Rawson Pass section of the walk from November 2023 until further notice. Other sections of the Mount Kosciuszko Summit walk may close for up to a week in February 2024. There will be alternate access to the summit via Kosciuszko walk (from Thredbo) or the Main Range walk (from Charlotte Pass). This alert will be updated with closure dates as they become available.

Do not enter closed areas. Penalties apply for non-compliance.

Closed areas: Kosciuszko National Park closed sites

A number of sites in Kosciuszko National Park are closed or may have other restrictions until further notice.

Road/trail closures

The following roads and trails are closed until further notice:

  • Geehi Dam/Olsens Road
  • Grassy Flat trail

Fire-affected areas

Some sections of Kosciuszko National Park which burnt during the 2019/2020 fires remain closed. These areas include:

  • Wolgal and Pattinson's Huts

Huts that burnt down in the 2020 fires

These locations remain open, but the following huts or buildings have been lost:

  • Bradley/O'Brien's Hut, Brooks Hut, 4 Mile Hut, Happy's Hut, Harvey's Hut (under repair), Linesman's No.3 Huts, Round Mountain Hut, Vickery's Hut (under repair), and Dry Dam Ski Shelter.
  • Warning: Please take care as there may be broken glass/nails that are uncovered since NPWS made records and cleaned up these sites. Please do not disturb the sites or remove artefacts.

Snowy 2.0 works affecting access to Tantangara Road and Tantangara Dam

  • Access to the southern end of Tantangara Reservoir via Quarry trail is closed to the public.
  • Access to the southern end boat ramp is open, but may be subject to short-term closures.
  • Current boating and camping access to Tantangara Reservoir will still be available at access points on the northern end of the reservoir, via Port Phillip and Dam trails.

Do not enter closed areas in Kosciuszko National Park. Penalties apply for non-compliance. For more information, contact the local NPWS office.
